my .02:(bait taken)
TDKR has the gimmicky villain that gets taken out by Anne Hathaway. The big twist is a dud. It also suffers from the same problem is predecessors suffered from: Christian Bale is a terrible Batman.
Avengers may have a rehashed villain but he's still a better character than what TDKR gives us. We also at the time got the feels for agent coulson dying. I would have applauded Christian bale biting it with the nuke, but nothing gives you the feels in TDKR. The dumb cops getting killed in the riot? That's just dumb, not touching and emotional.

Disagree completely. Loki is a villain that Thor could have easily taken out by himself. You didn't need the whole of the Avengers to assemble to stop him after you saw Thor defeat Loki single-handedly in his origin film. So what if he had an army? They were easily defeated with the help of two humans who had no super powers or enhancements, whether natural or artificial, whatsoever (meaning Black Widow and Hawkeye).

Coulson is alive by the end, same goes for Bruce Wayne. Coulson being alive in Agents of SHIELD completely negates that plot line in The Avengers and makes his sacrifice meaningless.

Could Black Widow or Hawkeye or even any one Avenger single handedly defeat the entire Chitauri army? I doubt it. Could any Avenger beat Loki and the Chitauris by himself? The whole group was needed for that fight.

It's pretty amazing that when these movies came out that they were seen as equals and some even preferred the avengers.

Still do. TDKR has a whole lost of issues and is the weakest of the Baman trilogy, suffering from the disease which often afflicts long series... it's just way too overstuffed. It could stand to be a half hour shorter, and it unfortunately suffers in comparison to the truly brilliant Dark Knight, which has a strong case for best superhero movie ever.

Avengers manages to balance having multiple lead characters and a complicated backstory, yet not feel nearly as bloated. It's a great piece of storytelling.

It's objectively a much worse movie. It's not even about taste, it's about knowing what you're talking about.

Wow, you are worse over here than you are on the SB.

I love Batman and the Nolan films but TDKR was a huge drop in quality. So many eye rolling scenes (Blake knowing Bruce is Batman, Batman charging headfirst into Bain's lair without any kind of plan, Talia's reveal/motivations/death). It gets worse and worse with every rewatch.

There are some good things, I like that the choices made by Gordon and Alfred in TDK have consequences in TDKR. Scarecrow's cameo. Tom Hardy and his eyes give a great performance as Bane, even as his character is completely neutered by the horrible, horrible Talia reveal. Boring characters like Matthew Modine and Blake take up way too much time.

I think Nolan had a plan for the third film that went completely in the trash when Heath Ledger died.

The only problem I had with TDKR was Blake throwing away the handgun after shooting two people and then 5 mins later he runs through the hospital with a shotgun.
