Did Sony purposely break my PS3?

Because I was out of state I haven't used it in about four months... it powered up fine, then when I tried to sign on to Netflix it said I needed to perform a system update to version 4.4 something or other.
Well, I started the System Update and the download meter approached about 75% before the whole thing died on me.
Now the power light turns off and on but there's nothing on the screen.
Are they trying to get me to buy a PS4? I won't surrender to their nasty conspiracy.

Just blow inside the part where the disk goes in and tap it a few times. Worked for me.

The output mode may have changed somehow. You can try:

quote:
If you are changing cables or cannot see an image on the screen, you may need to reset the video output to default settings. To reset the video output:
1. While the PS3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the PS3 beeps a second time (approximately 5 seconds), then release it.
2. The PS3 will power up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

You own a PS3? How dare you! You should be redistributing your money to those that don't work instead of buying shite like a PS3.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, that didn't work.
Going to have to move a Roku onto that TV.

Similar thing happened to me about a year ago. I didn't use it for like 6 months and attempted to turn it back on and nothing. I'd check to see what their return/repair policy is before jumping into a PS4 unless you are just ready to upgrade.

Kept using my 360 and got a Xbox One last year. I'm gonna eventually grab a PS4 in the next few months. I just don't really have a need for it now.

Yeah I even went and purchased a new power cord. Didn't work.
I was pissed because it meant I was going to miss out on the Last of Us, but thankfully they remastered it for the PS4.
