I heard someone say, it's an insult to be traded to the Sixers at this point. What are they doing? What do they hope to accomplish? Why are they still an NBA franchise?

They want to be terrible to keep getting top picks and hope they all pan out.

They should be penalized for what they have been doing

Tanking

Land multiple super stars/stars in the draft to avoid just being a slightly above average team in the NBA, which can sometimes be a death sentence.

So you mean they aren't walking the Green Mile to the execution chamber as we type?

I understand wanting to land good players but this has been going on for at least what, 2-3 years? How many seasons are they planning to tank away?

They have had one tanking season. Media would have you believe it has been a half decade. 76ers fans don't care but the rest of the fanbases are all worked up about it.

They should take it to another level and start an intern at center.

PA: "Get on your feet Philadelphia! No. 53 Mark Smith. Coming in at 5'4" 112 pounds straight out of ITT Tech!"

Why? They can do whatever they choose. And some might say that is a better idea than consistently being decent and getting stuck in the middle forever

They were on the verge of contending, pulled the worst trade in recent NBA history by giving up Iggy and Vucevic for Bynum essentially and decided to sulk by tanking into oblivion. fricking disgraceful

They have Embid, Noel, and Williams. How many other young players do they need? At some point you need to add decent veterans and build your bench. What Veteran FA in their right mind would willingly go to Philly at this point?

Embid is out this year. Noel hasn't played.

I think it sucks but the rules are the rules. I wish the owners would have changed them. I mean, is there really that big of a difference in the bottom 5-6 teams that one deserves a better pick than the other?

If I were a GM I'd use this strategy too.

Not because I think it works, but it's pretty much a decade of job security.

I mean the team has been actively trying to suck as much as possible and their fans are still praising the GM. It's pretty amazing if you think about it.

And if it works out for them? shite, even better! He's a genius! If it doesn't work out, it's because the injury-prone players didn't pan out. Not his fault!

Yeah because they lucked into the year with Durant at #1 and not Olowokandi or Kwame Brown.

But the small market teams will never be able to attract free agents and have to try other means to get the marquee FAs, if they want to truly go for a championship.

Whichever one they give more money to. If money is equal, no big star is ever going to Philadelphia. So the only way to get a guy like that is to draft or trade for one.

The 76ers lived in the middle after the prime Iverson years were over. A decade of signing veteran free agents and trying to improve the team year to year. And they did alright at it too, drafted Iguodala, Jrue Holiday, and Thaddeus Young in the teens. Were able to sign a reasonably desirable max free agent in Elton Brand. And they still never sniffed relevancy, have to have a superstar to get there.

Lots of teams have resigned to doing what the 76ers are doing. They just don't have the audacity to strip it all the way down. What do a few veterans get you besides less ping pong balls and less minutes for young players? NBA rosters change over so quick, the Pelicans have two players, Gordon and Aminu, that were on the roster the year before they got Davis. So these teams have no impact on the roster in the future.

Teams have just been trying to dress a turd of a roster by deceiving their fans into thinking they're going to compete for the 8th playoff spot or whatever. 76ers have no illusions of that. Until the rules change where this isn't the clearest past to a superstar I'm glad my team is fully embracing the 'tank'.
