Car buying and selling questions

1. When selling private party, do you ride with the possible buyer during the test drive? Do you offer a test drive?
2. Do dealerships accept personal checks or how do you pay the down payment?
3. On a new car, do you need to 'break in' the engine? If so, how is this done?
Thanks

No test drive until I see money. For the record, PP sales are a Pita, but you can do well.
Dealerships will take any form of payment.
Breaking in engine is generally no longer necessary. When they build the new Corvettes they try to sling the guts out of em just getting them off the assembly line.

Yes, ride with the potential buyer on the test drive, but allow him to really give it a good test, within reason of course.
I've always given dealers a personal check without a problem, pretty sure they call the bank about it though.
I just drive the vehicle like I normally would, but I change oil after 500 miles, I take the oil filter home and cut it open and check it for a lot of metal shavings and pieces.

Depending on the potential buyer and the vehicle. I sold a motorcycle (sport bike) and there wasn't a chance in hell I was letting the dude who bought it ride it before money was in my hand. This guy was a young punk who had never owned a bike. No way I was letting him test drive a 750cc sport bike
I sold a car to a Mexican dude and rode with him while he test drove it. No issues there.

Thinking of meeting outside a busy shopping center on a weekend for him to look over the car in daylight. Not sure how I want to approach the test drive but it is only fair for him to have that opportunity.
Appreciate the heads up on personal checks being good.
Metal in the oil would be a nightmare... Lemon engine from the start.

Depends on the person but if they look normal let them test drive alone.
