If this is what Charles Barkley actually said, I applaud him. The truth can be ugly but it IS the truth.

Who is Dr. Steve Perry?
quote:
Featured in CNN's Black in America series, Dr. Perry is the most talked about innovative educator on the scene today. Perry is the founder and principal of what U.S. News and World Report has cited as one of the top schools in the country, Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut. Capital Prep has sent 100% of its predominantly low-income, minority, first generation high school graduates to four-year colleges every year since its first class graduated in 2006.
quote:
In addition to being the principal of Capital Preparatory Magnet School, Dr. Perry, MSW is an Education Contributor for CNN and MSNBC, an Essence Magazine columnist, best-selling author, and host of the #1 docudrama for TVONE “Save My Son.”

It would take a special diseased brain to find anything wrong with what Barkley said.

Some people wondering why other black leaders don't say this
Well here you go
Well here you go

And this conversation needs to continue and pick up MUCH more momentum.
All it takes is one "They're oversimplifying the issue!" comment from someone like Oprah to put us back at square one.

This is impressive as hell, honestly.

Seriously, who better to listen to than the guy with literally a 100% success rate on ghetto kids?
Who could possibly be better?

I'm going to bring the mood down here and say I'm skeptical about the statement that 100% of those kids went to 4 year colleges.
You can't get 100% in just about anything.
You can't get 100% in just about anything.

They do say it, and that incluses Barack and Michelle Obama. They just used more nuanced language than Barkley uses.

Not to downgrade what this guy is doing, he has my utmost respect and admiration, but they are sending 100% of graduates to college, not graduating 100%.
That's a big difference. But I would assume graduation rates are very high as well, but not 100%.

Michelle Obama:

quote:
Today, more than 150 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, more than 50 years after the end of ‘separate but equal,’ when it comes to getting an education, too many of our young people just can’t be bothered,” “Today, instead of walking miles every day to school, they’re sitting on couches for hours, playing video games, watching TV. Instead of dreaming of being a teacher or a lawyer or a business leader, they’re fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper,”
quote:
She concluded that many Black kids think getting an education is acting white… Her quote was “reject the slander that a black child with a book is trying to act white.”

Don't worry Al Sharpton, Jesse and the rest have it covered. We will hear from them shortly.

Well she wrote a PhD thesis at Princeton that was racist and segregationist and victimizing. So that's very surprising. But good.
I clicked your link, and it was some hip hop blog eviscerating her and those comments you got a primary source?

I just remembered the controversy surrounding her comments so I just googled "Obama baller rapper". I just grabbed a link with the quotes. You can do the same.

I'm on my phone. Was that when JJ threatened to cut his nuts off?
