This Oscar Tevares story has me wondering what happens to a player contract if he suddenly dies. Say there was guranteed money coming, does the family get it? Also I know baseball doesn't have a salary cap but what about sports that have one? Does the contract just disappear?

No clue, but I'd assume it's voided. Also, there's no way it counts against the cap.

He did not have any guaranteed money coming. He was going year to year.

I would sincerely doubt that even guaranteed money under the contract would pass to next of kin. That however is a guess.

Pretty sure there are clauses in contracts that deal with a player not being able to fulfill his duty to the team.
