WEEKEND RESULTS THREAD: Fun to be a football fan in Louisiana

WOW!!!! What a weekend for the Tigers and Saints
Now, to the hunting and fishing things.
Headed up to the lease Thursday at noon. My dad stuck a doe that morning and I was hoping to cash in on my second of the season.
I got to the stand and at 6:00 I had a doe with a yearling come out. We have been seeing them on camera and I had decided to let her walk this weekend because we had 2 big bucks in the area and I was hoping one of them would come passing through.
Friday was one of my most memorable hunts ever. It was a great morning, 48* and calm. Well it's 10:45 and I still haven't seen anything. This is not what I had expected but thats how hunting goes. Right then I hear something walking up the hill. I grab my bow and turn to my right to see this very large coyote walking up. I let him walk to an opening, make a kissing/squirrel noise, he stops and I sent the rage flying! Coyote down!! This was my first coyote with a bow and first time I've ever seen a coyote while bow hunting. This was a big dog! Somewhere in the 40lb range, over 4.5' tall when hung up by his legs.
(First shot got him but coyote or not I didn't want to see him suffering so I put another one in him and that was all she wrote)
That afternoon, I went hunt a different stand on a whole different part of the lease. Right when I get set, I get a text from my dad saying "just had a coyote run under me. couldn't get a shot." Now, we have a lot of them on the lease and have been trying to manage that but we have never actually seen them while hunting, today was different.
At 5:30 the packs started howling; some were close. Not 10 minutes later I hear something running up from behind me. Once again, I grab my bow and ready myself and, again, a coyote comes up. He jumps the small creek and proceeds to take a crap in the sand 20yds from me (no shot due to brush). He passes and never offers me a shot.
Then AGAIN, 10 min later, here comes another. This time I am able to stop him and take an awkward shot nearly holding my bow sideways and bending to avoid hitting a branch. I let it fly and see the arrow skip off the creek bed and settle fletchings up on the bank. Coyote takes off and I assume I miss due to the awkwardness of the shot.
Then 10 more minutes and, I swear I'm not making this up, I hear something moving in the brush in front of me. Here comes, what I assume, is the first coyote coming back. He sniffs around then finally gives me a shot at 20yds and I nailed him.
So now its getting dark, there are 2 green nockturnals glowing like christmas lights around me. I get down once I can't see my sights and go retrieve my arrows and move the coyote out of the area. When I get to my first arrow, I grab it and it's wet. I look and it's covered in blood! Apparently due to the angle, I thought I missed but in fact I had a complete pass through. Coyote down!!
Both arrows from the afternoon hunt:
The rest of the weekend I saw one doe and couldn't shoot
TL;DR version: Killed the first 3 coyotes I've ever seen while bow hunting on Frisday. 1 in the morning, 2 in the evening. No Deer.

I caped out the first one (the biggest and prettiest by far) but not the other two

Posted pics of a bloody arrow and downed doe in the IST thread on Thursday (my weekend started a bit early). Saw a few more deer Saturday but no shot). Saw hogs just about every hunt but they stayed down in a bottom feeding so no shots. Wont be in the woods again for two weeks due to work issues so I look forward to seeing what you guys get!
Enjoyed some great football as well and got more chores done around the house.
Congratulations Hat on the yote kills - I have never gotten a shot on one with my bow and only have seen two on a bow stand in all the years I have been bow hunting

Left Monroe Thursday evening, headed south to fish the HBA tournament Friday, club tourny on Saturday.
Friday, Caught about 20 trout at Bayou McGill (most small/a few decent fish), then went to Biloxi Marsh in search of the not so elusive red fish.
3 folks on the boat, caught close to 40 redfish, kept fideen, buddy (who owns the boat) finished 3rd in the HBA red under 27, won a yeti for his trouble. We had another red that was EXACTLY 27 inches.....like, his tail didn't even fully go over the black line. He was DQ'd.
At the HBA, we talked to a friend who said he was wearing the trout out north of us, up Bayou Liberty (actually, Bayou Bonnafuque (sp - and I'm likely not even close) which flows into Bayou Liberty). So, we did something we normally don't do. Went north, and couldn't really find them up there. Hauled arse back to Bayou McGill, trout still there, caught a few, then went into the marsh in the duck lease off Unknown Pass. Water dirty via airboats doing work in there, caught one red, and realized we should have never run north/shoulda stayed to what we know, which is NOT north. Was kinda my fault. I wanted to go up there. As Deitz told the Cap'n in Lonesome Dove, I looked at my buddy around 9:30 Saturday and said "what we doin' up here Cap'n, this ain't our country?"
SO stupid to do that, when we KNEW we could have caught fish at McGill/Biloxi Marsh.
We were fishing a club tourny that Saturday, and literally didn't have a fish to weigh. Guy that won 1st and 3rd on trout caught them around Bayou McGill (same shoreline at least).
Was stupid.
Bottom line? Great day Friday, bad day Saturday, and Saturday was my fault - I was the very one that talked my buddy into going up there.
Didn't drink enough water Friday and Saturday, and even though I only had two beers on the ride home from the camp to buddy's house in Mandeville on Saturday afternoon, and two drinks during the game, STILL woke up w/brutal hangover Sunday. Being almost 50 sucks.

Nice report, Hat.
Opening of Rifle weekend in Area 2 was not very eventful for us. It was pretty hot and deer were not moving. I saw one doe that I passed on cause it was heading to my little cousin's area. She never showed up there. First time we have been skunked on opening weekend, but we still had a good time as usual.

15 bass, 8 specks, and 1 red Sunday afternoon. Felt good to catch a bass again. The trout are pretty far inland right now, just not much size to them yet.

Friday, I took my wife and 2 year old daughter out for her first fishing trip in a boat. Went to ICW and unknown pass, caught some specks and other fish.
Coulda gotten skunked and it wouldn't have mattered to me. It was a perfect day and great weather. Glad I could spend it with them.
