Do you think that Christie is going to be left out on a ledge with his hardheadedness?

quote:

Mr. Cuomo said that a mandatory 21-day quarantine would remain for all travelers, including medical personnel, who return from West Africa after coming into direct contact with Ebola patients. The governor explained that the travelers would be quarantined at home and monitored twice daily, though he did little to soften the sharp rhetoric that has raised the eyebrows of city and federal officials.

LINK So I guess JFK arrivals will be allowed to go home while Newark Liberty arrivals will be sent to live in tents.

If they don't actually live in New York I am sure that confinement will be up to that state. And I am pretty sure that the conditions for NY will lighten up significantly to the point where quarantine only involves extra requirements like avoiding public transportation and locations where large crowds are likely to gather and close contact would be come unavoidable.

Well if you're pretty sure that settles it

Now Christie is hedging:
quote:

"The protocol is clear that a New Jersey resident with no symptoms, but who has come into contact with someone with Ebola, such as a health care provider, would be subject to a mandatory quarantine order and quarantined at home. Non-residents would be transported to their homes if feasible and, if not, quarantined in New Jersey," said spokesman Kevin Roberts. The governor's office said this was not a change in policy.
LINK

Obviously he knows that the quarantine was stupid. I guess we are going to find out why NJ found it not feasible to transport Kaci Hickox to her home in Maine.

Politicians have to walk a fine line. They have to at least give the appearance of being proactive but not come off like a panicky spaz.

Cuomo and Christie both come down on the wrong side of that line.

Yes. Christie figured out that he can't actually imprison people who aren't symptomatic. He will probably claim to have been told that she was very sick as his narrative over the weekend has been developing.
