Insurance Coverage Question regarding spouse

Is this a new thing brought on by the ACA where you are not allowed to have your spouse on your insurance if his/her company offers insurance?
I am confused on why this is the case and how they would monitor this.

If I remember right, there is something along those lines, which is why a number of companies ARE dropping spousal coverage if they can in order to save money. Don't remember the specifics though.

Not an ACA thing directly, just a way for companies to control costs.

No

Many companies starting doing this on their own in the early 2000s to cut costs. Where I worked, to get spouses covered, we had to sign a statement that our spouse was either not eligible to receive coverage through his/her employer, or was unemployed.

I would agree that this has been the trend for almost 15 years.

Oh okay I guess it's just weird timing then for both of our companies to implement it at the same time. Thanks for clearing that up!

that has not happened where my husband or I work. I carry him on my insurance because it's better coverage and cheaper than the coverage he can get with his job.

my company required proof my wife did not have an insurance option from her employer before she was covered.

Yeah, thats what it was.... Companies aren't required to cover spouses, but a lot are going under the "If your spouse has access to employer sponsored insurance, we aren't covering them"

My company charges a $50 per month surcharge to have my wife on my insurance since her company offers it.

My company started doing this. It's not mandated by ACA as a rule, but employers are having to do it as a cost cutting measure because it's such a grand fricking plan and "it is going to lower premiums by $2500."
Adults are more expensive to cover than children as a general rule. When my wife and I got married earlier this year, I could add her children to my plan, but not her.
Thanks a ton Barry, you lying big eared bitch.

for this coming year my company is instituting a $100/month ($46 and change per pay period) fee for spouses who decline coverage from their employer. Along with the rate increase, coverage for just me+spouse (no children). went from $89/ pay period to $192/pay period. nothing in the plan changed as far as deductibles or coverages.
so much for rates going down.

Yeah, not new.
As fricked up as Obamacare is (because it was written by insurance companies), the insurance companies have been fricking us for many years now.
