From LDWF recreational crabbing regs

quote:

No person shall possess adult female crabs in the berry stage (i.e., carrying the eggs or young attached to the abdomen). All crabs in the berry stage taken by any means shall be returned immediately to the waters.

From LDWF commercial crabbing regs

quote:

No person shall possess or sell adult female crabs in the berry stage (i.e., carrying the eggs or young attached to the abdomen). All crabs in the berry stage taken by any means shall be returned immediately to the waters. However, a legally licensed commercial crab fisherman may have in his work box an incidental take of crabs in the berry stage equal to not more than 2 percent of the total number of crabs in his possession.

It all depends. It's illega if the crabs have the pon-pon on the outside but I'm 99% sure they're referring to the Orange eggs INSIDE the crab.

Sorry to just be getting back to y'all. I posted it while waiting for the draw bridge in Larose and have been driving home. The pic was taken right there by the bridge.

I've always known it's illegal to keep females with eggs. Was wondering what this person was doing.

I live in Larose and there are other similar signs in our area. The eggs are internal and as such it is legal to harvest and sell them. Many locals consider these orange eggs to be a delicacy.

Did you remember the law after reading it in this thread after the poster right in front of you posted it?

Coonass for berry?

Berry stage is illegal. However, when they eggs are internal, you can't tell, so legal. I used to think that was orange fat, but recently discovered that it is eggs. My favorite part of a crab.

Btw, also illegal to discriminate against Jake Brakes.

Recipe-You scrape all the eggs out after a crab boil and mix with an equal part of soft butter, mix together well then smear it on corn on the cob or other vegetables after cooking.
