Capone talking to his son was an extremely sad scene.

Nucky handing Gillian over made my skin crawl.

What happened to Jillian in the asylum? I remember a couple of episodes ago one of the other patients had some kind of abdominal incision, but I didn't get what that was for. It appeard that Jillian had the same procedure last night.

Gillian was given a forced hysterectomy surgery. That is why she was talking about the ladybugs, "how do you know which one is a lady?" meaning she didn't feel like a woman anymore because her female parts had been ripped from her.

If you remember, the Dr who runs the place claimed the need to find the evil, that no one can reform themselves, the source inside has to be removed.

The callback to a few seasons ago where his son put his fists up was brutal.

The best thing about the ending is that everyone's favorite character, Margaret, is now worth around $2.5m in 30's money (about $30m today).

We're they trying to show in the end that he was either going to die or he was going to jail? I didn't get that part.

That's the impression that I got. The IRS pair were about to arrest him.

Which makes absolutely no sense when juxtaposed against the facts of the show. We all saw the feds building a case on Capone, but there was nothing shown, no evidence in the world of the show the feds were building a similar tax evasion case against Nucky. There were no books, no ledgers, nothing. Making it even more difficult is the fact Nucky actually did have some legitimate business dealings in which he most likely paid taxes. The feds couldn't just say "how did this guy get rich? He must be a gangster."

Between that and the way they had Tommy kill Nucky, while a great story come full circel, the details of how we got to that last scene do not make it realistic. A 13 yr old Tommy, who looks 22, gunning down Nucky. How does he even know about Nucky? He was raised by Julia, who had morals and wouldn't have allowed Gillian any contact with Tommy, as we saw during the course of the his custody case. Richard gave his life to save Tommy and made sure he was raised by somebody decent. The payback for Richard's sacrifice, Tommy grows up to be a murderer.

While the story comes full circle I do have a some issues with it. Better to have had Nuckey live out a long, boring, uneventful life in obscurity not remembered and never having left a legacy or something, family, etc. to be remembered. Forgotten.

Lois Lerner says none of that matters. When the IRS comes calling you're gulity until proven even more guilty.

But you're correct, if the IRS was building a case against Nucky it was one the writers kept out of the scripts.

They said they were IRS agents

I understood them to be federal agents, but I missed them being identified as IRS agents. There was no sound as the viewer saw them through Nucky's state of shock.

I can accept the story line if they are federal agents following Nucky to see if he would lead them to Eli (whom they would still be looking for even though the IRS undercover guy let him go in Chicago). In fact, Nucky seemed to be using caution on his way to meet Eli earlier in the episode, which could be interpreted to mean that Nucky was aware that he was being watched.

The only way that the IRS agents would make any sense is if Lucky and the Commitee were trying to get Nucky in similar trouble to what Capone was facing. There was the comment from the Committee where they were laughing about making sure you pay your taxes . . . but it seems like a big jump to think they were setting Nucky up since they had already castrated him and took all his business.

She was hot ... but that scene was pretty useless except to give her camera time.

I thought someone was going to try to kill him, so the scene was pretty tense for me.

The scene made perfect sense. The series started with a store on the boardwalk touting this new invention, the radio. The world has moved on and times have changed and the television era is upon us. Nucky was a part of the old guard, the radio era. He was one of those who was a crooked part of the the political machine. From the half-gangnster theme a few seasons ago. Now the world had changed and he had been supplanted by a new regime of full out gangsters in Lucky & Meyer.

Also, it was a look into the future, a future he would not be a part of.

I thought it was excellent symbolism.

This was my only problem with the ending. Not that Tommy killed Nucky, but that he did it in public, instantly guaranteeing him a murder conviction.

I'd put up with her shite for that kind of money... Plus, she's pretty attractive in real life to me.
