Usually only if there is a defect. Is cracked and we had to replace it out of pocket.

Unless it is excluded, it should be covered. why would it not be?

ETA: provided the loss was caused by an insured peril.

If the crack was caused by a sudden and accidental occurrence and is not excluded in the policy exclusion. Assuming you have a comprehensive HO policy.

Has to be caused by an insured peril. No peril, no claim. Call your agent. Plus you have to look at is it worth it with your deductible and having a $3,000 claim on your policy.
Having a claim for $3000 on a policy may not be worth it...

HO Comprehensive policy covers any sudden and accidental damage unless it's excluded in the policy.

Named Peril policy covers only damage caused by the listed perils in the policy. Like Fire, Wind, Lightning, Hail, ect.

No idea what policy the OP bought. Named Peril is usually on low value or rental dwellings, unless you shopped the policy as give me the cheapest insurance that will satisfy the Lien Holder.

Edit to add
An exclusion that could apply to your loss would be faulty material or workmanship. Read you policy.

A standard policy is a named peril policy, a deluxe policy is an all risk policy unless excluded. How did the crack happen? Settlement of the home?
