I think I heard this on this board. "rock is not fun anymore". I think that's the difference, girls used to love that 80s hair metal. now it's so depressing and melancholy. People want to have fun, I think that's why edm has grown so much. I think the Dubstep wave captured a lot of that headbanging rock feel, it has the same feeling.

Actually the heavy metal bands that people in this thread are confusing with rock & roll are the perfect definition of bombast.

Give me some examples lyrically please. Music is interpretive for the most part, so good luck.

What Tremonti means is that arena rock is dead. Which is a good thing. There is more variety of music being performed, as the American Indie scene is amazing. There are still plenty of bands that draw big crowds, but those bands play festivals instead of arenas.

He actually speaks of this in the interview and how festivals are huge in Europe and the States are finally catching on. The US has Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion, and Louisville had Louder Than Life for the first time this year and it had a huge turnout. Festivals are replacing arena rock which is alright by me.

This.

Good rock is definitely out there, but I think there is something wrong with the fact that I have to go out and find it.

Not everyone is going to want to do the searching. Kids and teens hear stuff on the radio.

Its a problem that kids growing up won't have a modern rock station to listen to.

If you can watch tihs video and still think this band is great, then you are either in middle / high school or are just a sucker for cheesy music.

LINK

And comparing Alter Bridge to Johnny Cash? GTFO of here with your BS.

You really believe that kids these days listen to the radio? You need a reality check because radio, as far as music goes, is a medium of the past for the current generation of kids.

that doesnt mean fricking alter bridge is a great band

Well, then clearly you havent been paying attention. Alter Bridge makes solid rock music with great musicianship, fantastic production value, and have at least stayed true to their roots.

I agree with that to an extent. Rock during the '70s was extremely fun and upbeat, and still retaining the musicianship and depth that most fans respect.

However, '80s hair metal's only positive contribution to music is that it resulted in a counter-cultural movement which contributed to the rise of grunge, thrash, and alternative music.

Most of the music in the '90s was pretty bleak at times, lyrically speaking, but it was still high quality music.

No way, Jose. Kids listening to Dubstep these days would not have been rock fans in the previous decades.
