I value my time more than money. He's talking an extra 15-18 hours a week, plus extreme vehicle wear and tear.
Let's say his 30% = $30K

Not a good trade IMO.

I get a new truck every two years..through my company. Has to be new for tax benefits

My gas is paid for through the company

I dont punch a clock, I dont have a boss...I come and go as I please, however it is necessary for me to be there at least a few hours a day.

It's a straight shot against traffic...total time in truck is 1hour 15min each way. 2.5h hours a day....people in sales do more driving that that.

Do you have a family? Do you value your time with them and have you factored in that lost time? You cannot replace time that you don't get to spend with your kids when they are growing up.

This is almost my exact situation. I did 3 yrs on the truck and 3hrs instead of 2.5

I haven't paid for gas in a year, I pay an extra 50% on the truck note every month bc I rack up miles that are reimbursed. I make sure to be on location or doing something business related at the beginning/end of the day so my commute miles are reimbursed.

When Im on the road/at work my wife is at work and my kids are at school/afterschool activites.....nice try though

My day...leave house at 715-730 am....I'm home for 600-630. How are those hours any different than your workday?

Sometimes quality of life is far more important than 30%. Sure money can improve that quality but 90 miles, twice a day, will wreck the quality of your life.

You will quickly grow to hate the job, then you will resent your wife for not moving. Hate your kid because there isn't a good school in the middle.

My dad commuted from Pearl River to Baton Rouge 5 days per week when I was in jr high/high school. Trust me when I say this - he was absolutely miserable. He was an a-hole to me and my family, was never around for sports stuff, and I didn't like being in the room with him much all the way until he retired. He refused to move because we couldn't sell our house which they designed and built on my grandfathers land, he didn't want to put us in EBR schools, so it was generally a bad stretch of time for us.

Spending 3 - 3.5 hours per day in your car is too much.

You aren't going to have any sort of life driving that far.

You're "working" another three hours a day. By that math, you're taking a pay cut by taking the new job.

The company buys you a new truck or you pay for it yourself through your company?

This is far different from what the OP will be doing, IMO.

I buy my truck through the company. I own the company.

So your deal isn't at all like the OP. He wouldn't be reimbursed for gas, mileage, etc.

I see what you were saying in terms of time, but obviously, your schedule is more flexible.

I'm strickly talking about the time and the drive. My point is, driving 180 miles a day is nothing.

understood.

It is a lot easier when the miles are free, though.

I drove 140 miles round trip for 5 years. It wasn't bad, but all that driving wears on you and your vehicle after a while. I would leave the house at 4 am and not get home until 6 in the afternoon. The only reason I did it was because it was a great job that paid well plus paid my mileage.

Not too much. He still works 11 hours a day.

I think brag status is 0-4 per day.
