My buddy is convinced Kawhi is going to carry the Spurs. I try to explain that one star (if he even becomes that) isn't enough. He is just so used to them being great.

We've had our fun SA will likely always be competitive in the division as long as Pop is at the helm, but if/when the time comes for the torch to be passed, I won't quibble much

I still think Popovich goes with Duncan. Maybe I'm wrong. I really thought (read: hoped) they would go out on top this year though.

Our contined success will depend on how much our "medium 3" (Kahwi, Danny Green, and Tiago Splitter) step up to the plate without the Big 3 being there to bail 'em out.
Have to keep drafting/developing well, too. But hey, this is basketball, there are no guarantees. As much if a Spurs sunshine pumper as I naturally am, I thought we'd never win anothet under Duncan after PHX dismantled us in 2010, tbh. No way did I call the '14 title

Depends on how long Duncan wants to play. Pop is on for another 5 years tops, and honestly after this year (barring early season injuries), I think he and my boy Ginobili hang 'em up if they make it past round 2 this year.
And I will cry.

Spurs are class. My brother and I have a theory that if their colors weren't black and grey, people wouldn't call them boring. They play an unbelievably fun brand of basketball.

Well, the Raiders seem to have plenty of street cred with the same color scheme...
I think it has more to do with the combination of being small market, not having any TMZ-worthy personalities/egos/team drama, and the fact that our first four titles were a grind it out style of basketball. It's been pretty crazy watching SA transform from a defensive lockdown team to an offensive buzzsaw.
Put this team in a larger market or add some persinalities (i mean, come on, Leonard makes DUNCAN look exciteable ), and they're probably received differently.
Although I will say the past couple of seasons I haven't heard as much of the "Spurs are boring" rhetoric
Back to the subject at hand: I'm excited/scared to see what HOU will/can do this season. Wouldn't be surprised in the least to see y'all challenge to win the West

People are sleeping on us. I think we will be better than we were last year. With Durant out for awhile I think we can get a top 3 seed.

I hope so. We always are a letdown with expectations. I kind of like that everyone is counting us out after this offseason.

I know better than to sleep on anyone in this nightmare of a division
I think y'all definitely make a run for a top 3-4 seed. I have no clue what SA is gonna do. Probably just lurk around the middle of the pack and see if they can turn it on after the ASB.

Parsons will fit better in the mavs offense period. not saying he'll be an all star, but I think he'll live up to the contract

quote:parsons is better off the dribble and is more creative... But those qualities are easy as the 3rd banana on the team, a team that didn't make it outta the first rd. his load, the expectations, and the scrutiny will all sky rocket this year. No longer will his 1/13 days fly under the radar bc he was a 2nd pick who doesn't make that much money. It's a different world.
Parsons could do a little more offensively but he isn't nearly as good defensively. So it's hard to assess who is better.

Thing about Parsons is people have been saying so long what a great bargain he was since his contract made him possibly the best bargain in the NBA. His greatest asset was his incredibly team-friendly contract.
Now Parsons is paid market value and he's going to be evaluated as a 15 mil/year player. I don't think the reviews will be as glowing. Don't get me wrong--he's a nice player, but he's the classic case of a guy who was called underrated for so long that he became somewhat overrated. And he was underpaid so long he became overpaid.
I love what Ariza is able to do on defense. He's a guy who can affect the floor so drastically on defense and he's a great fit next to someone as ball-dominant as Harden. When we had him in New Orleans, we unfortunately had to ask him to be our primary scorer on some nights when injuries piled up--that's just not what he's good at. I remember his +/- scores were always much better than people would think since our eyes as spectators focus so much on offense and counting stats.
