This game, maybe more so than any other haunts Ole Miss people to this day.

My daddy talked about this game every fall for most of his life. My uncle said he was sick for a week and hated Billy Cannon for years

I know it's probably a long shot that any posters here were at that game, but if you were it would be cool to hear your memories and recollections of that game.

i was there but i was only 8 years old. i remember Cannon's return, and the goal line stand. I also remember OM punting numerous times on 3rd down, but thats about it. after that i don't remember anything during games until Jerry Stovall returned a kickoff vs. A&M in about 1962.

I was 10 years old at the time . My dad and mom went to the game . Later when I was older he told me he'd never go back to tiger stadium . Mentioned lsu fans setting cars on fire if you had a ms tag among other things .

First Colllege football I ever saw was in 1961 . Ole miss lsu in Oxford . Ended up a 6-6 tie . Have been an ole miss fan ever since .

I guess the derogatory way that lsu refers to ole miss as "ole piss" or "ole myth" makes me dislike lsu even more .

I will give em this . They are always one hell of a football team and not to be taken lightly .

Go to hell lsu !

I was there on the opponents 20-30 yd. line selling 7 UP's. I was 13 and knew very little about football other than sandlot in the neighborhood. I did know LSU won the game and that I made about $2 or $3 for the night.

Yes I was there. I remember the Cannon run. We were sitting in the south upper deck above the Ole Miss section and it got rowdy. A guy climbed up from the lower level to fight I guess. Lot of drinks were thrown, cops, handcuffs, very noisy. I was age 9.

i was there - soph year @ lsu

sitting(standing) in student section on about the 35- 40 yard line

many think the run was in final minutes, but they got the ball & slowly came down field & the white team - cannon, rabb, etc had the goal line stand to win the game

remember during the om drive - their player - cowboy woodruff coming off the field - completely
wore out - both teams gave 125% effort
lived in south stadium & remeber the signs painted on the stadium _ "piss on ole miss"
"no more elmore" - i think!

If you have a program from this game, hold on to it. They are worth a lot of $$.

Right. I've read that the LSU D held OM inches from the goal line. What a game to have witnessed!

No, but i was at the 2003 game in Oxford. Was great seeing Eli fall on his arse. Really enjoyed breaking so many redneck hearts. They were so stunned most just sat in silence while LSU celebrated at the end. Took them a few minutes before they got up and left.

Mac loved the Bandits, but Ditzel wanted the White Team on the field with the game on the line.

The game was on the line.

Players were just made of sterner stuff - and certainly less specialized. Think of that - your starting QB and AA Heisman RB/PR are making this tackle to end the game.

It was personal back then - Ole Miss' Elmore (#19 in this picture) only played in 3 Ole Miss losses and a single tie - 1 loss and the tie were to LSU. He didn't play as a freshman, but the Rebels lost in 1958 as well.
