To be totally honest, I think the garbage men are taken for granted and underappreciated. They provide us with a service that a lot of people don't think twice about, and that is picking up our smelly, fly-infested trash week after week.

Think about it, what would you do with your garbage if there weren't any trash pickup? A lot of you might say burn it, but that can't be very good for the environment. Any other way than landfills would either be littering or hurting the environment.

I'm not a trash man, but I want to give you garbage and waste collecters a shout out! Thanks for what you do!

That job sucks.
Cheers to the folks on the South end of a Northbound garbage truck.

Go solid waste workers

When they go on strike you really notice the difference they make.

Don't some landfills burn anyway? I know the ones that take construction debris do. Not sure about the ones that take household items.

Garbage men can actually make a good living and rack up good retirements FYI. It's not a job I could do though.

I appreciate any hard worker, but my waste collector sits in the A/Ced/Heated cab and operates a mechanical arm to do the trashy work.

Is there anything to the myth that they're relatively well paid?

It's hard as hell.

When I was 22 and I were garbage men for a month. I was in great shape and just finished OTS and was awaiting deployment

Hardest job I've ever had. I played I-aa football for 2 year and picking up trash kicked my arse

You ain't no punk, you punk.
You wanna talk about the real junk?
If I ever slip, I'll be banned 'cause I'm your garbageman.
Well you can't dig me you can't dig nothin'.
Do you want the real thing, or are you just talkin'?
Do you understand? I'm your garbageman.
Yeah, somethin' from the garage and down the driveway.
Now get outta your mind and get outta my way.
Now do you understand? do you understand?

Louie, Louie, Louie, Louie the bird's the word and do you know why?
You gotta beat it with a stick.
You gotta beat it 'til it's thick.
You gotta live until you're dead.
You gotta rock 'til you see red.

Now do you understand? do you understand?
I'm a garbageman. aw, jump on and ride
Yeah it's just what you need when you're down in the dumps.
One half hillbilly and one half punk.
Big long legs and one big mouth.
The hottest thing from the north to come out of the south.
Do you understand? do you understand?
Woo, I can't lose with the stuff I use, and you don't choose no substitutes.
So stick out your can 'cause I'm your garbageman.

Louie, Louie, Louie, Louie the bird's the word and do you know why?

You gotta beat it with a stick.
You gotta beat it 'til it's thick.
You gotta live until you're dead.
You gotta rock 'til you see red.

Now do you understand? do you understand? do you understand? all right, hop off.

Blow it out your arse. You take a bong rip, look at a trash can and decide to be so supportive of "garbage men" that you feel compelled make a thread about it on the internet. Donate 7+ year to the sanitation engineer union local and get back to me on your appreciation of "trash men".

It doesn't require lots of training so it will always pay not all that well, but it's definitely important.

>>what would you do with your garbage if there weren't any trash pickup? A lot of you might say burn it

I went to east Africa about ten years ago and that's what everyone did. I even stayed at a hotel that was pretty decent with reliable hot showers, and burning the trash was the first thing they did in the morning.

Their work is hard and they do get paid decently, but its a shitty job and if they weren't doing it, no one else is gonna do it.

That's why when I know I have a huge pile of trash (say after a storm), I always wake up early that morning and bring out a few beers (they always ask for it), gatorade, and a few bags of chips for them. Its like any job, if you feel appreciated, you do a better job and you feel important. Everyone deserves praise.
