Even if it's based on a realistic process (putting together a TV show), I wouldn't say his shows are grounded in realism. They're clearly TV shows designed to evoke certain emotions and thoughts.

I'll give you The Newsroom. Even though I love the show, it clearly has a liberal bias. Sorkin himself has tried to correct that, and the second season wasn't as blatant as the first. I don't produce TV, but I imagine it's not anything like Newsroom of Sports Night.
