I think he'd be smart to sit out a year. Do some espn work and next year some big money teams would come calling-Dodgers, Yankees, etc.

like the cubs?

Because i suspect they're already calling.

keeping in mind that the yankees resigned girardi last year, why would either dodgers or yankees wait on pulling the trigger this year.

I guess my question is what's the benefit of sitting out a year?

And as for the yankees...i'm not so sure they're in a very attractive situation right now.

Also, not that it means anything, but unlike the dodgers and mets, the cubs haven't come out and made a comment like "RR is our guy" or said anything.

Theo said a few weeks ago that RR would be our coach next year...but that was a few weeks ago.

Maddon to the Cubs would be a great fit. Of course, I'd lose my shite to replace Fredi with him, but I don't see it happening. Cubs would be my next choice.

yea i meant today. Liked the dodgers and mets did when rumors started to swirl.

I didn't even know that maddon could opt out until he did it(and certainly wouldn't have thought he would even if i'd know about it)

Yeah I'm with you. Just looks like they may have to go back on their word. I won't judge them though

Cubs aren't going to be big spenders in the future.

Those days are over.

Why do you say that? They will absolutely spend big to keep their homegrown talent locked up long term and I would expect them to throw some money out to supplement it as well. They won't be spending Dodgers level but I would be shocked if they don't have a top 10 payroll every year once the youth moment has fully arrived at the ML level

If you mean bad contracts for aging stars, I agree...they'll be smart with it. But if you just mean a blanket statement, then I disagree.

But I invite you to go see how much they've got committed for next season and just see the difference between that and what a reasonable expectation is for the 2015 payroll then reconsider if they'll spend big.

Guess you think they'll just pocket all that increased advertising revenue the video board is going to inject. Next tv deal, rickets gets richer, cubs stay the same?

they get lester or sheilds this offeason. Does this count?

but to stay on topic

I wonder what other teams are after him, no way the Cubs are the only ones. I still think the Mets will make a play

I do too. I think they're the second best fit too (obviously i'm biased towards the cubs).

I'm really good at getting ahead of myself. So i have no problem saying Maddon to the cubs, it's happening.

If Maddon ends up where it appears he'll end up, it'll be interesting to see how #Rays respond. Something changed tone of talks in last week

A lot of media guys are saying he will go to the Cubs without just coming out and saying it

What does he mean by how they will respond? Not sure why going to the Cubs would impact how they would move forward differently than any other team he might go to

I think he just means it will be interesting to see who the Rays hire. I dont think one has to do with the other.
