You nailed it. Don't ever report anything to your insurance carrier when you weren't at fault, unless it's a last resort and you're not being indemnified by the at-fault party. Then, claim it and let them fight it out.
quote:because now they know that you have been in an incident
Why should I fight his insurance on my own when I can have them do it for me? I mean...I pay enough each month for insurance for that right?
you are an increased risk
your rates will likely go up
:(
quote:
NEVER contact your insurance company until after you've contacted the at-fault party's carrier. If they handle it, you don't want to put your carrier on notice you were in an accident. If the other carrier doesn't handle it to your satisfaction, then call your carrier. Insurance 101
So am I totally fricked now? Is that what you are saying?
Btw...like I said...minor damages to my vehicle. Other cars involved...not so much. I am having back pain..but will go to urgent care this am about that so it's documented.

No, not saying that. Just saying you can get your car fixed, be out of pocket nothing, and your insurance carrier has no knowledge you were in an accident.
Reporting it to your carrier, even though you weren't at fault, can result in them raising your rates, and it's unnecessary in this case.
ETA: Plus, you said you're having back pain. Your carrier won't fight with them over your bodily injury claim. You'll have to deal direct with the other carrier for that. You're gonna end up dealing with them anyway.

I don't have it all figured out. I haven't been in a car accident with a vehicle I was driving in over 15 years.

why call your agent first when you can just come to the OT for all the answers you need.

Totally not! One lady at the accident was asking if they should call to have an ambulance at the scene to be checked out for whiplash....as we are all standing around our vehicles that we were all able to drive off the freeway to the spot the cops told us to. I told her she can either drive to the ER after they are done with us or go to urgent care. But that calling 911 seems a bit much since we all appear to be without serious injury.

so now your giving medical advice at the scene of an accident? So what happens when this lady ends up with severe back and neck injuries and she tells her insurance company the nurse at the scene of the accident told her not to call 911?
you're going to get sued and they're gonna take Butters away from you.

You're just a glorified diaper changer... what if that woman has a serious injury? I hope she sues you for preventing her from getting the medical attention she needed!

It wasn't just me saying that though. Everyone was all talking together afterwards while waiting for the police to be done with the report. She was asking the group and we all were saying the same thing. I just told her that if she thinks she is injured she needs to def be seen for it.
