Many French Quarter and Garden District property owners didn't have a bad Katrina. Excessively broad generalizations are excessively broad.

What difference does it make if everything outside of your neighborhood is a wasteland?

You are wrong my friend. That bridge over the canal wasn't always there. Those house were in a very secluded area at one time. You had to have a reason to be back there and you could tell who didn't belong. Once they built the 1st bridge it was all over.

well as long as I can remember (into the 80's) there was a bridge there.

Not really.

Woodlake Estates has homes nicer than Chateau, then the other gated communities and Gabriel blow Chateau homes out the water. The only area in the metro area that competes with home size in Gabriel is English Turn and Northline.

The next time I'm at my mom's I may hit you up with an error code on an oven to see if you can tell me how to make the damn thing quit beeping.

Oh, an error code means something has bad connection or is failed and needs replacement.
Sometimes it's just a ribbon cable connection that needs cleaning, other times it's a blown control board. Many times though it's just a bad connection.
With a model number I can tell you how to enter diagnostic mode and turn the beeps off.

I promise you, I've seen first hand how it changed that neighborhood.

I disagree with you there. Have you seen Woodlake country club? And Gabriel is too new of a neighborhood to be compared to. But I don't want to derail this into a kennerbrah thread. I know you know kennerbrah but you might under estimate my knowledge on the area.

Bubbles have a much shorter lifespan than that unless you're in Palo Alto.

Because once in a lifetime storms happen all the time.

Seems there was a pretty bad storm a few years, maybe 40 or so, that was pretty rough on the area.

Not to mention a bullet was dodged with Rita. Don't act like this can't happen again

Have you ever actually spent any time in New Orleans or with people who live here? Or do you know what parts of the city flooded? A wasteland that you weren't going to anyway, isn't a real big deal.

I've been here 15 years and have yet to see a bubble burst. The only effect on the housing market in some areas more than others was Katrna. Even in 2008-2009, very little effect on the housing market in New Orleans. Matter of fact I sold my house above asking price the first day it was on the market in 2010 and bought this house that I'm in now. Now this house that I'm in now appraises for 40% more than what I paid for it.

yeah well my one bedroom apartment has a view of a topless beach with Ukraine and Russian strippers sun bathing everyday. Oh and tourist season is just a week away.

Clearly no one else is buying it either. Houses don't stay on the market that long here.

The French Quarter is nothing but a tourist trap wasteland. Uptown, Garden District, Bayou St. John, north Mid-City, Marigny/Bywater, Lakeview, and Algiers Point are all better neighborhoods than the French Quarter

Except that there is currently a booming economy in Houston with quality professional jobs.
