BoB and it's not even close for me. The Pacific definitely worth watching. But something about BoB has more of a kick to it.

Band of Brothers easily.

It is great television. For me the only thing that gives it a run for its money in movies, series or mini series is Lonesome Dove.

Pacific suffered from the fact that they decided to cover so much of the Pacific campaign and had to follow different units to do so. I think it had the making of 2 good short mini series (the Sledge and Leckie parts) and one good movie (the Basilone part). They just didn't mesh well together.

I do very highly recommend the source books. With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. Excellent books by two very different Marines but both terrific reading.

Band of brothers was exceptional. The pacific was good, but couldn't measure up to band of brothers

Band of Brothers is one of the best TV programs I've ever seen... without a doubt. So perfect.

I haven't seen the pacific. I've heard it is pretty solid--and I'm sure it is good--but it isn't supposed to be as good as BoB

BoB.
Generation Kill is better than both though.

Band of Brothers by far.

The Pacific was good, but not BoB good.

I never finished Band of Brothers. No excuse really. Went away for a week while watching it, then got super busy. But I'm going to watch the hole thing in the next couple of weeks. It's worth it.

That's ok. I've probably watched it enough times for both you and I (and a few other people too).

Not completely in this camp, but it is a great, great television series. Almost 100% factual, too - only minor artistic license used in a couple of places.

I would recommend BoB to anyone interested in U.S. military history or World War II.

ETA: I am finishing a rewatch of The Sopranos - Frank John Hughes (played Bill Guarnere in BoB) shows up in the last 5 episodes of Sopranos as a Gervasi crew soldier.

So, that means he appeared in 2 of the greatest television series of all time.

The Pacific was a little sloppy as a result of having to tie in 3 very separate story lines. It also had to cover a much larger timeframe and thus many lulls in between actual campaigns, making for a slower storyline. The combination of these things give it a huge disadvantage to BoB. I felt like when the series gravitated toward Sledge and his unit it became really fantastic.

BoB was able to operate on a much more concise storyline and was less jumpy as it followed the same company from June 1944 straight forward to the end of the war. Both were great but the latter 5 episodes of The Pacific trumped any stretch in BoB IMO. As a whole, BoB was probably consistently better though.

Thus, watch both, you won't be disappointed either way.

The Sledge/Okinawa episodes were great.
