Shreveport has three of the top five elementary schools in the State, and BC isn't even close. Just saying.

Shreveport has a mayor? I thought they only had like a parish president or justice of the peace or something?

Show me a link to that. Stockwell Elementary in BC was the top school in LA for a long time. I think they are still up there.

Its real easy to claim a top school when all the smart kids test in to the same school. Come high school the Caddo magnet schools are no better than an honors class at Haughton, Parkway, Benton, etc.

Should of been 81, but skipping the first 3 mo. of my freshman year shot holes in that schedule.

1. Shreveport is a 'D' system as graded by the state. Bossier is a 'B' system just a point away from 'A.'

2. South Highlands Magnet is a terrific elementary school in Shreveport. My grandchildren go there. The next 2 schools are not in the state's top 5.

Re: St. Vincent's Aca. I think that place shut down 30 years ago. They turned the building into a retirement home for aging nuns.

whoa whoa whoa

The last graduating class was my year, 1988. Give me a few years before you start throwing around that 30 stuff.

Lots of my friends are supporting Provenza. I hear that Ollie woman is damn near senile.

The latest poll has Ollie at No.1 and Provenza at No. 2. Surprising because Patrick Williams has waaaay more money to spend than anyone else in the race. But he comes across as a crook.

Re: senile. There is an old black man and an old white woman in the race that makes Ollie sound like a 20 year old. But those two are polling in single digits.

You have to scroll to page 3 before you even see a Bossier School on that list. Legacy Elementary is #28.

I would move to Shreveport if you were looking for a better education for the kids. If your kid can earn it through Magnet testing, you can't get a better Elementary education than what Shreveport offers. No where in the State has a richer source.

Bossier city isn't even close.

You are wrong on so many levels I'll just have to pick a few:

1. Shreveport has the MOST FAILING SCHOOLS outside of New Orleans. And it ain't close to No. 3

2. Bossier does not have elite Magnets. Shreveport has a few elite Magnets that are very good and a TON of Magnet 'components' which are crap.

3. Do you know the difference between 'B+' and 'D'? That's the states grading of Bossier v. Caddo.

4. Elite Magnet schools in Shreveport like Caddo Magnet HS, Caddo Middle Magnet and Southfield Elem Magnet are under constant pressure to be dissolved because they are almost all white/Asian with very few blacks. Eventually, they will be dissolved.

5. A lot of upper class people in Bossier who would like to send their kids to an elite school simply send them across the river to Loyola Prep.
A doctor in Bossier I know simply rented an apt in Shreveport and sent his kids to Caddo Magnet under that address. The same can be done with claiming residence in Caddo Parish with relatives when it isn't happening.

6. Shreveport is going to hell in a hand basket. Even a black liberal Dem candidate for Mayor said 'we're the next Detroit.'

7. Middle and Upper class people having been moving to Bossier for the last 15 years and the trend is continuing. And they are bringing the tax base with them.

Shreveport also has an assload more schools than Bossier, and from different demographics. When you consider the "F" rated schools that Shreveport has in it's lower income areas, you can't forget the top Magnet Schools (which do exist in Shreveport, and not in Bossier).

So, even though Shreveport is full of underperforming schools, it hosts three of the best Elementary schools in the State, which Bossier does not even sniff. FACT.

True, but the point is exactly what you said, Shreveport has a few of the states most elite schools and Bossier does not.

Yes, I do. What you don't seem to understand is that is an overall grade. My point is that Shreveport has better Elementary schools than Bossier. Eden Gardens, South Highlands, Fairfield, and do I need to keep going?

I disagree, completely. My kids go to Eden Gardens (one of them now is at Caddo Middle Magnet), and there is no shortage of diversity at EG. South Highlands as well. The Magnet testing caters to low income, broken families, minorities, and siblings. Funny, because whites are the minority in Shreveport - but I think it is fair.

Yet, they still exist. Once again, Shreveport has better schools....

This happens everywhere. It's called cheating the system.

I wholeheartedly agree. It starts with the clash of classes in the City Council, and the inability for people to get on the same page despite diversity. This is Shreveport's big problem - priorities.

You are right - the "Great White Flight," as I have heard it called, is very real. People flocking to North Bossier and Benton for a myriad of reasons. Shreveport is a screwed up place, no doubt. There is really bad and really good - but it is home to me.
