I do think that had something to do with the support for it, but I don't think Bush did it for that reason.

On what authority? We go back to that question of subordination of interests.

Toothy just refused to conform.

Admins kept offering him chances, and he kept violating board rules.

As it was explained to me, it was a serious and weighted decision.

Ah...

That's too bad...some of his diatribes (which went on endlessly sometimes) were absolutely spot on entertainment (if you enjoy conspiracy theories). I had no idea he was going nuts violating rules.

Oh well.

I will endeavor to keep his favorite insult alive...

Bush decided for war.

Then looked for reasons.

I have heard more then one rumor that he went to war as a way to strike back against Islam.

Your miles will vary on that one though.

Nope just taxing them. But you can infer whatever makes your dick hard.
taxing a industry doesn't afford added control/regulation?

Nope.

Just taxing them.
which would mean control/regulation.

We are at war with Islam.

According to whom?

Are we targeting/shutting down mosques? Sounds like we are at war with terrorist factions of Islam. . .because our leaders think we can isolate one from the other. . .stupid as it sounds.

100% of the support came from (rightly or wrongly):

I think a fair portion of it was religious right excitement at the end of times. They love it when the world is going terribly. It means Jesus comin'.

I admit fully I go back and forth on this one.

We went to war in Afghanistan against Islamic extremists after 9/11. They did in fact fire the "first shot".

We expanded the war by attacking a secular Saddam, but created even more Islamic extremists.

We also got involved in the Philippines and a few other places about this time (too lesser degrees).

Realistically though we trade blows with them every so often.

It is why we decided to fight Isis suddenly. I mean do we really care who is killing who over there as long as they are keeping the killing confined to the desert?

Is everyone we offed in the last 12 years more or less the more extreme elements of Islam? Sure for the most part (if you can ignore the innocent bystanders who have died over the years).

But I do believe we are involved in a global conflict...and unlike the last World War great armies will never clash in the field. Just small battles spread out over months.

But this is really far far far off topic...make a thread I'm sure the usual suspects will show up for it.

Growing up, did you have a Catholic mom that made you kneel in rice when you got in trouble?

Nope.

My mother took me to mass each sunday until I was 12.

At that point she said I was old enough to make my own choices.

I dabbled with Mass and baptist churches off and on until my first marriage.

After that I decided that religion was silly ;-).

When I got in trouble my parents had no problem kicking my arse

I was sort of asking in jest but also trying to understand your seemingly rebellious nature.

My dad grew up with strict Catholic parents and be rebelled really hard.

It's too bad your mother didn't believe the way you do.

lol

no.

The evil socialist poon is wife 2.0

My starter wife was a methodist and fairly devout.

Caused all sorts of issues between her and my daughters as they hit their rebellious teen years.

You mean erasing my fetus?

Whose to say she didn't.

Sadly abortion wasn't legal then so she had no choice but to bear me.

Now you guys get too.

Watching the faithful explain away the bullshite of the world as...

"god's will"

too much probably had a huge affect on me.

That and a couple of incidents of a personal nature which I won't get into on this board cemented what I was already feeling about religion in general.
