My wife & MIL are doing it now...started on July 9th. Wife has lost 37#'s in just over 3 months...MIL has lost about 42#'s during the same timeframe. Wife has about 15#'s to go to reach her goal and should do it within the next month.

It ain't cheap, but it does work and you don't go hungry. A lot healthier than the Atkins diet which lets you eat a slab of bacon if you want to. Worth checking out and you will get results if you stick with it.

I know a guy at my gym who asked me to get into this program but I don't make OT money. This guy does work out a little bit but has lost about 25 pounds during his first three months.

I have lost 23 pounds in 9 weeks by eliminating fried foods and fast foods. I eat baked chicken , turkey , and green vegetables. No ice cream or cake or fatty foods in 65 days.

Know several friends and family members who did IP - yes they lost lots of weight and they gained it all back really fast. Do they not have a maintenance plan? We've been doing low carb - real food - and it's working great.

Too much.

You will lose a metric shite ton of weight. Same as any other ketogenic diet. You do not have to buy into their scheme to do the same thing. Protein powder is relatively cheap.

Worth it?

You will gain every bit of the weight back when you start eating like a normal person again.

I know someone that has dropped 22 lbs in a little over 4 weeks. Who knows what will happen when the person adds carbs back into their diet.

You must be a nutritionist or dietitian.

It is not "healthier" than any other ketogenic diet.

Don't let your wife throw away any "fat clothes" because she will need them when she starts eating carbs again.

Their glycogen and water stores will replenish and they will regain 18 lbs.

Well, I'll trust my Internist over you the random internet guy. They looked into several diets and are recommending the Ideal Protein diet. Unless you have researched this diet verses another, you are just talking with no basis.

IP works and you lose weight pretty quickly. Like all diets if you go right back to your old habits, you will gain the same weight back. There is a maintenance plan that has to be followed but it is less strict.

Good luck.

Who looked into several diets? I have a hard time believing your Internists is recommending Ideal Protein...unless of course they sell it at the office.

how about just stoping eat crap, save your money!

Get off of processed foods, eat lean meats, shite ton of veggies and fruit and some whole wheat carbs!

Also do some physical activity.

All this is common sense!

It's called self control!!!

You are not a kid, you have a choice of the foods you eat

Ive heard of people doing well on Ideal Protein but to me Id be miserable with how restrictive that diet is. The reason the majority of people go off diets is bc they dont enjoy most of what they eat so they revert back to a poor diet.

A little over a yr and a half ago my wife and I did the Six Week Body Makeover program but continued the same diet for over a year. I went from 235lbs-174lbs while going from a 44w-34w. Now we still eat our 5-6 meals a day but we arent "as" strict now. On the program we have protein every meal every 3 hours but it pretty much breaks down 40P/40C/20F. The great thing about it is that you have very balanced meals and the meals are really good and filling. The bad thing about it is that you HAVE to have meals prepared or else you wont have great results. The thing I like about this program over other diets is that you actually lose bodyfat compared to just losing weight and then ballooning up once you dont eat "diet type" meals.

We bought a pressure cooker and a digital scale and typically made our meals on Sundays or cooked a meal or two at night. The great thing about the pressure cooker was that we could make a weeks worth of a meal in 30 or so mins. And a major plus was that after we made our portions for the week we would portion out the rest and freeze it. At once point we had almost 3 months of food stocked in the freezer already portioned out.

My typical day of meals. Meals are every 3 hrs:

Breakfast: 11oz casserolle (sp?) of egg whites/potatoes/low sodium salsa

Snack 1: protein shake mixed w/ water and a banana

Lunch: 2 cups brown rice, 4oz chicken, pork, or fish/shrimp and a sizeable portion og green beans

Snack 2: protein shake (w/ water) and a large apple

Dinner: same as lunch but I'll choose a different type of protein and sometimes I'll have 6oz red potatoes instead of rice. I also typically have brocolli for dinner.

As far as supplements/ vitamins go I get them from walmart and take 2 mens 1 a day multivitamins, 3 fish oil caps in am and 3 in the pm, and 2 calcium pills.

You also need to drink water constantly. My goal was a gallon a day and now its second nature. While at work I dont use any flavoring but when Im home I do. This was one of the hardest things for me bc I loved my soft drinks. I was drinking wellll over 100oz of dr pepper a day.

I could type alot longer but thats just a brief overview if you are interested. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck with whatever you do.

How many calories is that a day? Because that is what matters. But the fact that you are not going into ketosis makes the diet a lot more user friendly and realistic.

People act shocked that a 400 lbs man can lose 120 lbs in 5 months. It isn't that the Ideal Protein powders are some panacea. That is just what happens when you go from 4000 kcals a day to 700. And even more so when you cut out all carbs. But it is not sustainable.

I did Rapid Fatloss and lost 4 to 5 lbs a week eating 1200-1300 calories a day - almost all calories from protein. Every day I had:

7 AM - shake 50g Protein with Super Greens added
9 AM - can salmon (pink salmon - little fat)
Noon - 8 oz chicken breast
3 PM - can tuna
6 PM - 8 oz grassed beef (5% fat)

Drank a least gallon of water per day. Stayed on it for 11 weeks and lost about 65 lbs. It is easy if you do not mind eating the same thing most days. I had a regular meal or two every week. I walked 3 to 4 miles at least 5 days a week. I lifted short sets. It was very easy for me - the hard part is starting. You will gain back some H20 weight but it will be minimal unless you start gorging.

No. You will gain some water weight back but as long as you keep your calories in check you are not going to gain back massive amounts of weight just by adding carbs back to your diet. The people that gain all their weight back or just like any people that go back to eating like they did before and gain the weight they lost back.

Id have to calculate it out but I wanna say it was somewhere right under 2k cals.

The key with eating that much and still losing weight was that I was exercising 1-1.5 hrs in the morning before work on an empty stomach. Exercising first thing in the morning puts your body in a "rapid fat burning mode" bc it uses the fat as energy.

I obviously wasn't actually trying to quantify it to 18 lbs. And I think you got my point.

Well you said earlier you will gain all the weight back you lose from a low carb diet once you started back eating like a normal person.

I respectfully disagree with your bro-science. You could eat 1800 kcals a day...all at one meal...and exercise the same amount and get the same results.

But as has been said, do what works for you. The structure of the diet allows you to stick with a healthier lifestyle. That is what matters. Congrats.
