In the zombie apocolypse there is no way that you would be able to carry enough ammo with you for a firearm to be your primary weapon. You would need to preserve your bullets like they are made out of gold.

It would be good to have a pistol for emergency uses, but the primary weapon needs to be a melee weapon. It is easy to pick up, but it's also the most important. A cross bow would be a nice secondary weapon, but I would worry about breaking and losing arrows. Arrows are still at least more reusable than bullets. Then as the third option a small and portable pistol to be used only in emergency situations when you have no other choice.

it doesn't need to be my primary weapon, melee weapons are EVERYWHERE. it's the most valuable and it will be needed...without it you're dead.

as for long guns, I can put a bayonet on it and kill 2 birds with one stone.

Yeah, I'd carry some around, but using a firearm in the zombie apocalypse is like unleashing a nuclear bomb. Sure it's an almost guaranteed solid kill, but what would really happen in that scenario when you alert the rest of the horde within a 500 yard radius of your location?

That's what my 4wd truck and fortified structure are for. I'm not going roaming around the landscape unless I need food and supplies. Plus, what are you going to kill yourself with if you gat in a hopeless situation. You going to spike bat yourself to death? As much as I'd like to get that on video and upload it to post-apocalyptic YouTube, it ain't gonna happen.

People choosing close quarter weapons seem to think they will be a martial arts masters in the ZA situation. In reality, unless it's one or two "classic" zombies, you're fricked. Even one modern, World War Z zombie could nick you in a machete fight, and you'd be done.

Nope. It's firearms all the way. I'm not going to be hanging around Houston or LA during this time, so hordes are not going to be an issue for me.

and what's the biggest must have for any military?

it's the threat of it, the capability it gives you in that crisis moment, and unlike reality, the ZA will have moments where if you don't have a trigger to squeeze, you're toast

No shite. And really, if I'm going to a remote part of the country, I kind of want the zombies to show themselves, so I can get them out of the way ASAP. I might rig up some speakers and a generator and blast music to attract and kill them all. How many zombies could there be in Buttfrick, North Dakota anyway?

As far as rival humans go, people who live in these places and would survive are already a bunch of heavily armed survivalist weirdos. They've been preparing for this for the last 20 years, and don't need my shite.

Yeah, okay. If I can have a light saber, I'll go with that. Killing zombies would be effortless, and you could wear a cool Jedi cloak and say badass things as you rampage through the hordes.

But let's confine the argument to things we'd have access to if this happened today, not long ago in far away galaxies.

TeddyPadillac,

were are just talking about nonfiction weapons. If we start talking about light saber, people might talking about wanting to use magic spells or have a dire wolf.
