2 days on a vegetarian diet. My main meals come from salad and beans. Just grilled some mushrooms and yes they taste great, but are like only 20 calories.

Here is a normal day

1 pack of instant oatmeal with fruit, salad mid morning, bowl of beans for lunch, salad mid afternoon, dinner was grilled portabello mushrooms and a banana .

I'm not really hungry, but I know that I'm not taking in enough food to make this a sustainable diet.

I'm not one of those vegimatarians, but one of my favorite snacks is celery sticks dipped in crunchy peanut butter.

Black beans and rice together is an official protein serving and has plenty of calories.

Soy burgers, eggs, bread.

Good advice, thanks. Soy burgers and such are still really low in calorie content. I don't eat a lot and don't like eating all day. Maybe I just have to get used to eating all the time?

I am a piscetarian and what you are eating sounds awful. You could eat some Indian or Thai curries, falafel wrap, veggie tacos, bean and cheese burritos....or veggie burritos, lots of different asian foods....Kimchi fried rice with Thia chili roasted brussel sprouts is a favorite of mine.....tons of options out there but you do have to educate yourself on them.

Thanks. I don't think I can find that at my local wal mart, but sounds awesome. So rice and bread is where you can add calories?

Yea, I cook a lot of those.

That is option. I drink a lot of beer so there is that too. But you really don't need the amount of calories a typical American eats. I've gotten used to not stuffing myself all the time. My wife and I can usually split an entree and an appetizer out to eat and I am full.....I'm 6' 160......but I would be 190 if I didn't run/bike/swim.

Cool. Maybe I'm too worried about sustaining calories.

Thanks for the replies.

You should like some vegetarian pages on Facebook. If you enjoy cooking a vegetarian diet will open you up to a whole other world of food.

I have been eating mostly vegetarian the past few months. I eat lots of eggs and cheese, fresh salads, beans, nuts . I also eat a decent amount of non soy meat substitutes. I drink a protein shake or two per day also. It is very easy to get plenty of high quality calories.

Bread, cheese. If you're hungry eat a vegetable pizza.

Why are you vegetarian? You said health reasons, but is fish and chicken out? I can understand not eating red meat or pork.

Get your healthy fats from nuts, olive oil and avocados.

Both my cardiologist(CABG 7 years ago, now with Afib) & endocrinologist(type 2) put me on a LCHF(low carb high fat) eating plan in order to better control blood sugar & reduce LDL cholesterol & raise HDL. Including red meat & pork....haven't felt better & losing body fat.

How are you going to counterbalance the drop in testosterone?

Is there a drop in testosterone? Haven't studied it in depth but a quick google search provides mixed results at best.

It's the prevent and reverse heart disease diet. Pretty much no diary and cheese, no oils or nuts, no avocados.

My goal is not to be a raging vegan, but to eat follow this diet about 85% of the time.
