After 10-20 more years of Louisiana boom,, damn would be sweet if NOLA had MLB.

And basketball is my sport been diehard Hornets/Pelicans fan since '02 so hopefully it's an attraction this year

I'd like to think a team could work.

Think about this, if MLB had expanded to NO rather than TB, and the team had the same success that TB has had where would a team in NO be right now?

You mother frickers would eat that shite up, and don't act like you wouldn't.

That's why there needs to be a team in NO, because you frickers would love it and you do t even know it yet.

If NOLA keeps booming for 5 more years I'd like it's chances of having either an MLS team or an MLB team within 10 years (would take some time to get market recognition and a stadium situated).

NOLA is on fiyah. I wish I still lived there.

Population is it.

If NO did have a team it would be a small market team, wouldn't be that much fun to root for most years.

Yeah MLB is really tough to sustain. Cities like Milwaukee and Kansas City and San Diego have had their franchises for decades and still can't afford to have competitive teams more than 25% of the time.

I'd rather NOLA look forward and get an MLS franchise where attendance isn't so vital right now and where the popularity is almost certain to explode as the US demographics continue to change.

MLS team
Would be much more feasible than a MLB team. Just put a couple of Hondurans on the team and you'll have a packed stadium.

Good word Winston, and to the point about MLS I think we're going to see a boom of MLS and a lot of expansion soon. The world cup did way better than expected and got a lot of attention. I think millennials are really into soccer.

I really dig soccer. I think that MLS / USA can put a unique stamp on it somehow and it will really explode here. No idea what that is - maybe a little more physical play with absolutely ZERO of that queer arse diving and faking injuries. But it's a great sport it really is. I love most everything about it except the corruption and the diving.

NOLA native here, and yes I would rather focus on getting an MLS team in the next ten years. They are running out of expansion teams to be given, so unfortunately we might have to look to that first round of relocations that will inevitably come as some market nationally will inevitably not be what MLS originally thought.

Hopefully USA will continue to contend with the type of swagger and athletes we have here on the world cup stage and keep this thing going

it would have to be a domed stadium. not because of the heat, but because of the constant summer precipitation. They should've built one in Arlington, but the city didn't want to pay for the roof. their reasoning being the lack of rain

when you look at how NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL franchise values have EXPLODED over the past 2 decades (and especially the past 5 years), it seems like the most no-brainer decision ever to buy an MLS franchise right now.

By the way,

NBA basketball WILL surpass MLB baseball in popularity, tv ratings, etc. The league is absolutely on fire right now.

1) top notch young commissioner
2) FAR better global growth prospects and reach than football or baseball
3) very lucrative tv/media/internet deal
4) developing an in-house minor league system to bolster rural/small city support in basketball
5) etc.

I think an underrated aspect to the NBA's growth is the whole culture change from Iverson / Spreewell gangsta to the Durant / D Wade Urkel hipster culture.

NBA players are probably some of the most solid pro sports players in any professional league and it's helped open up a lot more potential fans and families to the product. Stern had a serious crisis in the late 90's and early 2000's and he handled it so well. It doesn't get much attention because it deals directly with a lot of racially charged and racially sensitive issues but he really knocked it out of the park.

which dude is more appealing to the majority of Americans?

The prospect of opening an MLS team and being profitable is at it's highest point ever now.. Benson probably broke his bank when he bought the Pelicans though or he'd probably be into it

And yeah it would have to be a domed stadium for NOLA I was thinking that too.

that's a good idea. but until someone takes a 25 year long stat on global popularity not just in ratings but youth participation, I'd have to call bullshite on basketball being more popular globally than baseball
