Strange coincidence, I had only finished reading Moby Dick less than one week before I saw this trailer: LINK . Certainly an ambitious project (if it is to be done right), but Ron Howard is worthy of trust.

Good trailer. Saw. Documentary about he events and it didn't seem all that exciting.

I'll be seeing this in theaters. I trust Howard.

More importantly, you actually read Moby Dick? That's a 600-700 page whale of a book. I've heard it's a pretty tough read. There's something like only a few chapters with the actual whale in it.

It's actually pretty interesting. Ron Howard couldn't have asked for a better written description. Down to the tiniest detail, every nuance of whaling (and the men and ship involved) was described.

I saw the same documentary, and it seemed more desolate and depressing than exciting. The whale did sink the ship, though. They aren't lying about that. Apparently, the thing was huge, got pissed off and rammed the ship. The rest is just an oceanic survival story.

Edit - I hope he doesn't do one about the guy who inspired Robinson Crusoe. That was just gross.

Is this based on the book about the Essex? I can't watch the trailer at work.

If so, I just finished the book, and it was a great read.

Never read the whole thing but I'll always remember him going on for a page or two about how he had never "shared a bed with another man," and how enlightening an experience it was. Back then I don't think it came across the same way it does now.

Not a fan of the amount of CGI used. But I'll see almost any Ron Howard film.

Yea, but given the content, there's really no other way to do it (unfortunately).

If it were just Cillian Murphy, I'd watch it.

If it were just Chris Hemsworth, I'd probably watch it.

If it were just Ron Howard, I'd watch it.

If it were just Brendan Gleeson, I'd watch it.

But all of them? With one movie? And given Ron Howard's and Chris Hemsworth's previous collaboration with Rush? Sold. Premiere night.
