This is the same coach who went for the endzone against Auburn in 2007 when a FG wins it. I'd say it was very clear that he does not trust his QB.

This...
People if you are going to watch football please learn the game! It was 3rd down, 12 seconds on the clock with no time outs, with an inexperienced qb under center. Taking 3 was absolutley the right call.

Les viewed that possession as a free possession LSU shouldn't have gotten in the game. It was after they recovered the kickoff. Les took the free 3 points and went to the locker room without wanting to risk not getting any points. If Mett or Flynn was QB would Les have taken a shot to the endzone? Probably. But I don't have a problem with saying thanks for the free 3 points and going to halftime.

I'm assuming your being facetious? Unless you meant to say he didn't trust his FG kicker.

He doesn't trust Jennings like he would trust Mett or Flynn in a similar situation.

Miles kicks the FG in 2007 with Jennings at QB

I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw that was happening.

At first I thought we should have gone for it, but like other posters have said...I think it was the right call with AJ as QB.

Remember early against State how we went for it on fourth in the redzone and didn't get it? We passed up a sure three points. And lost 34-29. So if everything (and thats a big if) had gone the same way, at the end of the game we're trying to get a field goal to win and not a Touchdown. I'm almost positive Les would do that differently. Why gamble for 7 when you can take 3 when there's so much time left to play? It was the right call considering the lead we had and the time remaining.

That was so overplayed by people. I watched the replay about a week ago. There were FOUR seconds left when the pass was caught. I think the operator was trying to get away with running the clock out before finally stopping it with a second left. If it had been incomplete, it would have stopped in plenty of time.

Due to recent history, including the Auburn game this year, I was glad he played it safe though.

I didn't have a problem with going for it. What I had a problem with was running up the middle four times.

I do agree it was the right call by Miles. I guess he's starting to understand his limitations.

Also...not sure if you heard him but Jesse Palmer was asking "why kick it" almost under his breath while they were setting up for a field goal.

It was exactly the right call to take the field goal in that situation. If Jennings took a sack (which he is wont to do) time would have run out and Kentucky would have gone in at half with the momentum from the botched misuse of the :12. As it was, LSU lengthened it's lead and put more pressure on Kentucky coming out of half time.

This Score Board would have melted had LSU not come away with points, not that Les gives a crap about the Score Board.

They beat those guys 41-3 as it was. Would it have made anyone feel better if the score would have been 45-3?

I don't recall, but didn't LSU have a TO left?

Maybe if Jennings could get 3 points for throwing the ball between the up rights. You familiar much with LSU and their current QB? You take the points in that situation, it's football 101

Because Auburn game. LSU is famous for getting one play in 12 seconds (if that). Take the points.

The bigger issue is if you're taking the points, why not take the clock down to less than 5 seconds before utilizing the timeout. Answer: Les.

I was so proud of Miles. He could not have been more demonstrative in letting the ref know he wanted a time out. This gave us plenty of time for a pass in the end zone and then a field goal if that would have somehow fallen incomplete. I was having a fit when I saw him send the FG unit out and was beside myself when the kicker doinked it. It took a few seconds for my friends to convince me that at least it went through the goal post.

quote:the decision reflects a lack of trust in your quarterback's pocket awareness and decision-making (i.e. Les didn't have faith in Jennings to get rid of the ball if a man wasn't open on the play or he thought Jennings might possibly force the ball and cause a turnover.) This is exactly why we kicked on 3rd down. No confidence in the QB.

Same reason we run 75% of the time. Trust must be earned.
