Well he's going to. That was pretty much always the plan for the last two years.

I would demand Loomis go get me like Larry Fitzgerald or some other weapon outside before I took less money.

Did Brady do that to get Moss?

Why wouldn't he? These big money QBs almost always restructure their contracts to be more cap friendly to the team. They rarely, if ever, take a pay cut. It's just an accounting charade to wiggle in under the salary cap rules.

Restructure means same money, just up front.

Yes, in every way. You know your status with the current regime/organization, you are the "savior" of a city, and you know the backlash it would have if the team would ever cut you.

You do a restructure and play it out til you're 38, or you extend it for full guarantee money/contract similar to Brady (except you don't do it as cheaply as a 3yr/27mil) if you expect to play til you're 40-41.

He would have 2yrs left on the initial 100million contract, the start of the 2017 season he'd be 38. So a 3yr, 40million contract extension (after all the signing bonuses, restructuring it, etc.) could alleviate something like 26.4mil/27.4mil cap into 16.4mil/17.4mil cap

Spread the 20mil from those 2 years into the 3 yr deal making the last 3 years 20mil cap hit/year.

Financially, he'd be making 13.3mil/yr in the last 3 years he signs, but it is fully guaranteed and the 10mil/yr cap hit reduction gives us the possibility of making a FA move for a WR, #2CB, or a better OG to protect him.

There better be a cap friendly briefcase full of money under the table if I'm "taking less money".

I think the bigger question is if you're the Saints do you want to restructure Brees. As others have said, restructure =/= paycut, it usually leads to a team committing even more years and money to you. If what we are seeing can be fixed with a few lineman upgrades maybe you bet on Brees, but if what we're seeing is the beginning of the end, it may be time to think about restructuring the team.

You wouldn't take more of your money now vs. later?

I think what you are trying to ask is whether or not you would take a pay cut. And, the answer is no. I would not.

Not sure how many times this needs to be said.

Perhaps this could be a requirement to post.

If I'm Drew and I've been careful with my money to this point I might consider a pay cut not just a restructuring.. That is, if I want to win another Superbowl to cement my legacy. That, plus I'd have to have assurances that the money is going to pay for a player or two that will shore up the team.

Didn't Brady do this?

He's going to get an extension.

It'll keep his pay the same and he'll be guaranteed future pay while also getting a lot of that money up front in a signing bonus.

Restructuring is good for the player usually.

No, Brady got an extension. So I think his yearly #'s dropped a bit, but you also get guaranteed money and a nice signing bonus

We honestly don't need him to take less money, just push it back a little longer. The cap keeps rising.

Hell, last year was the worst year for our cap IMO, and we went out and signed a $10 million safety while also signing Graham to a long term deal

Better wrap it up - I think the Brees family is running out of cutesy, nouveau riche names that start with "B".

I think Galette and Byrd should restructure or take a pay cut.

He did that to keep Welker, but the Patriots screwed that deal up and he went to the SB with Manning. Funny how those things work.
