even crappier part is they gave us a 3 week notice of the party. just got the invite in the mail over the weekend.

Go to the party. If you are chosen, its definitely worth missing a game for your best friend. If he chooses someone else, stomp your feet like a little child (which you probably are anyway) and scream, "frick You! I'm going to the LSU game!" and then leave.
On the subject though. Why would a guy do something like this? You invite guys you asked to be in your wedding, get them all together in front of a party crowd, and then make a choice of one over the rest. Pretty much saying, the rest of you kinda suck. Sounds like this idea was made up by the bride to be, as was the scheduling of the party, right. She's already taken over wearing the pants and she isn't married yet. He's a pussy.
I take it back, just go to the game.
