they do not, but with the bullshite rules that can never be consistently enforced put them in a horrible spot. It used to be PI, but now it's

defenseless receiver
contact to the head
defensive holding
pass interference
etc
etc

they're put in a horrible spot by the NFL who each year decides "oh well this year we're really going to be serious about this rule"
Think about that, the NFL essentially has a rule book full of rules that can be bumped into action to change the rules every year

Your problem should be with the league office, not the refs except the one who speaks ebonics, a ref who can't speak English is

How did we know you would blame NYC for something. Your hate for the NFL is unhealthy.

I find that the NFL refs are worse than High school refs. Their knowledge of the rules may be higher, but they just blow calls constantly

In this particular situation the problem is with the ref.

how are the refs suppose to make all of these calls when the league keeps making them more and more subjective while at the same time putting particular emphasis on some (which aren't the rules supposed to be equally enforced, they're the rules) while not on others

I think they're put in a tough position and sure they make some garbage calls, they're human, but a lot of the frustration over the last 5 years is with their handling of things that are difficult to handle...

hochuli's 2008 should have landed him in the unemployment line, so if the refs are sooooo bad, who do you think hires them? There isn't much they miss...in terms of the black/white rules, that aren't getting special attention from NYC, they do a fantastic job.

This. It is such a thankless job. They get all the blame for being the enforcement arm of a league office that is constantly altering the priorities for the jobs

no shite, at least once a year the league just takes one rule and grays it or grays it even more

such a shitty job, only the NFL can take something so subjective and make it a 20 page rule, that refs are then expected to carry out to the tee in a split second of action...cough, defenseless receiver rules, cough.

I've said for years that when a league puts special emphasis (rules don't need special emphasis) on a rule, it basically takes the integrity out of the games.

no. the NFL refs are so significantly better. they just dont have 75 cameras and super-duper-ultra-slow-mo replays at high school games, so you assume the calls are made correct on the field.

the refs have always been good, but flawed. we just have more evidence from every possible angle nowadays so it seems like theyre making more mistakes. add to that new, complex, subjective rules and the refs are even more overburdened than yesteryear.

I watched 5 games on Sunday and every game the refs threw some of the dumbest wtf calls I've seen all season. It was bad officiating in every game.

Did you see the stats of the crew that did the Saints-Dallas game?

I understand that the home team gets some questionable calls, but that is a dangerous pattern they have going. I'm going to have to start following them for betting

That was an absolutely terrible call, as well as the other player that got ejected for contact with an official.

There was one game, it may have been the Saints, but the team ran an end around (reverse) to a WR and they had an O-lineman in front blocking who blindsided a player that was REACHING OUT TO MAKE THE TACKLE. He literally almost touched the ball carrier and they threw the flag for hit on a defenseless player. I turned the TV off and walked outside after that. I cant fricking believe what they are turning the game into.
