100,000+ people leaving an event will cause traffic. I'd rather you just come at halftime and stay til the end if that's your issue.

It's a lame excuse and crutch

It's more of a social event than a football game.

Make getting out of campus easier and people might just stay longer.

i went to the UF game last year, stayed til the very last play, walked back to the RV to say bye to some friends and family, and was at Lauberge in Lake Charles by 8:30...

It's really a bunch of issues:

1. LSU offense isn't the most exciting. Period. It can get rather boring. I often found myself unentertained last Saturday towards the end. That's the woes of having young QBs though.

2. Show highlights of all the other games. Make it entertaining to be there.

3. Play better music during breaks. Can't just ship it in anymore with the same old classics. Again, it needs to be an event.

4. Sell alcohol. Keeps people there and without hangovers kicking in.

1. Alcohol - Sell beer or tell the gate nazis to relax. Like someone said, who wants to drink all day and then sober up during the game. As long as you aren't rolling a keg in, let them in the stadium.
2. Traffic -There should be only flashing yellow lights for a five mile radius around Tiger Stadium starting at the 4th quarter. The working traffic light at Perkins and Acadian really backs up traffic. Four lane Nicholson to at least Bluebonnet, wishful thinking - I-10
3. Concessions - it doesn't need to be LSU's job anymore to be the fundraiser for your church group or school choir. Bring in chains or professional caterers. I had Popeyes last year in Bryant-Denny.
4. Connectivity - Wifi and better cell reception.

Bottom line, the experience of being in the game has to outweigh the hassles of going to the game. With all the money coming from the SEC Network, the Athletic Department should be able to address some of these issues. Until LSU does this Tiger Stadium will continue to be a shell of its former self.

SERIOUSLY: What's the best way to keep fans in the stadium?
1. selling beer until the end of half time
2. actually fix the contraflow issues
3. show highlights of other games going on during the commercials
4. massive wifi service for cell phones. people want to communicate during the game and use facebook/twitter.

do those four things and the game day experience would be second to none in the entire country.

These are great suggestions and are rather easy to fix. I wonder what the copyright issues are with showing highlights in the stadium?

Maybe the SEC stadiums could work out something with SEC Network on that to improve the gameday experience?

The cell phone issue is huge. People are so attached to their phones now that if they can't get service for an hour or two they get panicky and have to leave. It is a real addiction. But, there should be the ability to use your phone well in the stadium to check on other games, post pictures, etc.

The alcoholism in Louisiana is out of control though. If a lack of access to alcohol for a couple of hours is destroying Saturday Night in Death Valley, then that is really sad. Instead of enhancing culture in Louisiana, it is destroying it. That is when you know that you have a major problem.

2011 was also the year we were running through the best regular season maybe in the history of college football and were ranked #1. So I don't think it is quite fair to use that as your measuring stick.

It's not a measuring stick. It's an example of blowouts where the crowd stayed. In 2011, LSU blew out Auburn and the crowd stayed. In 2013, LSU was blowing out Auburn and the crowd left.

Your argument is that the crowd leaving has always been the case. I can't do anything more than provide evidence how that assumption is off-base. What you do with the facts after that is up to you.

Again I'm not going to internet yell at anyone for not sitting in the rain for 4 hours though

I'm not yelling either, but I do acknowledge that it is a problem that is not an exception but more of the rule now in Tiger Stadium. To me, it is irrelevant where else it happens and how frequently is happens somewhere else. It happens with more frequency now in Tiger Stadium and that can't really be argued against.

How much it bothers you is not really my concern.

I believe someone brought this up in another thread, but fans arrive late and leave early in a lot of stadiums. It's becoming more common, and it's probably due to a lot of reasons.

Close games that are meaningful in some way are about the only exception.

Havent read the whole thread but main reason is that Football at all levels have sold their souls to the TV companies.

It is now more convenient to watch the game on tv rather than the stadium. TV runs the pace of the game.

What really takes the fans out of the game in my opinion is the recognition of some person or group of people during every single timeout. I've been to away games and it doesn't happen nearly as much as it happens here. Every single timeout some guy walks out on to the field in the northwest corner with a person or group of people and the fans have to shut up and listen to why we should give a shite about this person for a minute until the game starts again.

During the Kentucky game Kentucky called a timeout on a big third down when they had they ball deep in their own territory. Red hat comes on to the field followed closely by someone to be recognized. The person was on the field and had to run to get off as the ref was blowing the ready to play whistle. The crowd never got back into it and Kentucky snapped the ball before most even knew what happened. It's gotten ridiculous.

You are all shitty side walking fair weather bandwagon fans. LSU fans are the worst "fans" in the history of all sports. We don't want you here so just don't come. Traffic is just fine. The offense is just fine. Everything Joe Alleva has done at LSU has been perfect. Sorry you poors can't afford parking and don't like piped in music and just want to drink all day and act like bafoons. This is LSU. We are classy and calm here. We cheer when necessary but never curse. If you don't like it that way then you're just not a fan!

Honestly, we don't play the most exciting brand of football, either.

I really disagree with this. I have always found LSU to be among some of the most exciting teams. It's not a high-powered offensive style, but it's a smash-mouth-battle-in-the-trenches-style which I really enjoy watching. I have witnessed some great games in Tiger Stadium, especially in the Les Miles era. He's won more games in the fourth quarter than any other coach I can think of. The adrenaline it creates is addicting, IMO. The issue is our proud fans don't take loosing well, and drink too much before the games. By the 3rd quarter, buzzes are wearing off and leading to hangovers. Allowing alcohol sales in the stadium would possibly reduce the need to get hammered before a game, and keep people in the stadium longer.

So your "evidence" was comparing the game in 2011 which was one of if not the best team LSU has ever fielded, ranked #1, running through a gauntlet of regular season games never seen before in amazing fashion and playing entertaining football on BOTH sides of the ball to a game in 2013 that was also a blowout but none of those other things and in the rain? Cool

this is where lawyers yet again has ruined it for everyone. If LSU turns a blind eye then someone drunk guy busts his arse, the ambulance chaser will be coming at LSU for money because they "allowed" him in.

Have a dyy wedding and you're lucky if they stay for the father daughter dance, open bar and you can't kick them out. I like whiskey but not everyone wants to get wasted on 3 hours of bourbon.

Does the student section still use the old trick of putting flasks in girls sports bras? About the only place the cops wouldn't pat down.

(Haven't left a game early for 15 years unless it was on the road and I didn't want to get into a fight with jack wagons)

I think Duckie makes a good point. While I personally always stay the entire game, it is a fact that only two teams run the ball more than we do (Army and Air Force). I think as our offense becomes more dynamic we will hold fan's attention longer.
