re: SERIOUSLY: What's the best way to keep fans in the stadium?

I believe someone brought this up in another thread, but fans arrive late and leave early in a lot of stadiums. It's becoming more common, and it's probably due to a lot of reasons.
Close games that are meaningful in some way are about the only exception.

I think it's more of a trend everywhere and a reflection on our modern society more than it is an LSU-specific problem. People want flashing lights and information and entertainment from many sources RIGHT NOW. You don't get that sitting in a stadium for 4 - 4.5 hours. People want air conditioning and couches and access to alcohol, food, large groups of friends, all the other games, music of their choice etc. It's sad, but it's the direction we're headed everywhere, not just LSU.
Selling beer and allowing one re-entry per game couldn't hurt, though.

Start selling alcohol in the stadium. Thats the only way

each ticket can be scanned for one re-entry. that would solve a lot of issues.
-smokers can go get a puff at halftime
-people leaving early can give their ticket to their buddy outside of the stadium

Stop giving the leavers-early all this attention. It only enables them.

Yep. In the 90s if you wanted to see Troy Twillie pick off the pass at the end of the Auburn game, you HAD to be there. Now every game is televised and let's be honest, not many of them are close games.
You can, for instance, anticipate the blowout against a NMSU by setting your DVR for the game, going to tailgate, going to the game, leaving a blouwout whenever you please to get home at a decent hour, and then watching the rest of the game the next morning from the comfort of your own home. If you can't see the appeal with that whether you do it or not, then I don't know what to tell you

They already sell alcohol in the stadium (club). It does not keep people around.

there's typically 2-3 really good home games a year
people show up for those

Serious answers that wouldn't be difficult or expensive to achieve:
Free wifi
Working cell service
Show other games on the big screens at EVERY timeout and not just sporadically

that's why it's hypocritical. they already sell alcohol, but not to the lowly "common fan".

Sell beer and have 2 for 1 in the 3rd qtr.

they could charge 99 cents for it and people would buy access for it for the duration of the game

Really, two things:
1) Close games
2) Alcohol
When I was a student, I would drink like crazy before entering the stadium, but by the end of the 3rd quarter, I would be sobering up and getting that hangover feeling, which doesn't feel too great in a stadium full of yelling people.
Add to this that all games now are televised, which makes the games last a hell of a lot longer. That's just more time to sober up. Sell alcohol and this problem is solved.

Can't say it was Bryant. Seems people who drink a lot are immune to the smell.

one word beer.
or you could station security guards outside the exits saying people can't leave. That could work to, but probably would be frowned upon by a lot of people.

Oh...I'm well aware.
But for me, that's still how I look at this thing. Although my Dad was able to bring me to games as a kid, we did not have season tickets. It was a once or twice a season thing from 1982-1988 when he'd have a customer hand him some tickets or we'd decide to drive up and get tickets outside the stadium. Those games and those experiences are some of my greatest memories with him, and to this day I remember the feeling of walking through the tunnel to have Tier Stadium spread open in front of my eyes. It was breathtaking, and to this day I still enjoy that same feeling when I walk though my gate in the EUD. I've had my own tickets since 2001, and it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made.
I'm there for the experience of being there...win or lose. Winning this past 14 years has been better, no doubt...but it was never what made the place special. It's why I don;t care who we play, when we play, what the weather is like, etc. None of that changes, for me, why I'm there and what makes it a draw.
Not everyone feels that way, and I honestly quit trying to force them to a long time ago. In all honesty, I'd prefer those folks who are not as passionate as I am to kindly continue to leave early because in most cases they tend to be less loud (while telling whoever they brought with them that Tiger Stadium is not what it once was) or constantly bitching about play calling or coaching while never having any idea what players are currently on the field, etc. As much as I'd love a passionate, supportive, well informed FULL Tiger stadium until the end, I'd prefer a half empty one filled with people who care.
