Ipod touch, Ipod or old phone for 6 year old?

My daughter has been using my phone for games and music. I used to not mind but now she's always wanting it and of course it's at times when I need it. Plus I'm tired of my storage being clogged up with Demi Lovato and Katy Perry music.
We are thinking of getting her something for Christmas or her birthday (in January) so she can play her music and her games. What would be better in your opinion? My husband isn't completely onboard shelling out $200 plus for a new Ipod Touch but I told him we might be able to find something cheaper if it's used.
Should I try to get an Ipod touch, Ipod or just find an old phone for her? Also if the new Ipod Touches come out will the 5th generation drop by a good bit? What do your kids have for their tech gadgets?

I let my 6 yr old use my iPad mini a lot but it is not hers. You might be able to find one for cheap. I think you should look into a Kindle Fire or something that is larger but also on the cheap side.

Apple might have some refurbished ipod touches that would be much cheaper (I have a 4th Gen, IOS 6

Ok thanks! I have a kindle and my parents have an iPad she plays on but she wants something smaller to listen to her music and stuff. I'll look into refurb iPod touches

Gave my 6yo daughter a touch last Christmas.
Only suggestion - life proof case. They are prone to drop it.....alot.
