If you don't identify, it means you're a white male.

Be a smartass and remind them that "gender" refers to words and inanimate objects, properly. What they mean to ask is "sex."

Does it matter? They're going to figure it out if they call you in for an interview...if they haven't already looked you up on LinkedIn at that point.

Agreed 100%. I don't think many people would argue against this. May the most qualified individual get the job.
