Got a 13 year-old beagle. She is always scratching herself. No fleas or ticks. She does have very dry skin. Inside dog but has dog door to go out on patio. She has allergy problems that she has had treatments for over the years. I put her on generic Claridin pills on vet's advice but since she's been on this medication she seems to be scratching more.

Is there anything to give a dog to help with very dry dandruff like skin.

Thanks.

Mine has skin allergies and fish oil pills keep them controlled pretty well.

Just starting using them a few days ago. I hope that's the answer.

Good luck. Mine still chews her paws from time to time and scratches here and there, but not nearly as often or bad as she does without fish oils. Make sure you give her the right dose too. It seems like a lot, but mine is 60lbs and I throw in 4 with her food. I think they're 1000mg maybe.

Hope that works for you. Not sure about beagles but I know some dogs produce an oil for their cost and skin and shampoo can cut it. If you are washing your dog with shampoo it may be messing that up.

That's what I got but I've been giving her only one. Will step up the dosage. Thanks.

I'll try anything. I haven't noticed that at the vet's office. What's the best kind of store to find it?

Fish oil pills and a sparky made with Apple cider vinegar and water. Google the mixture for the spray. Also, the ole Coro-steroid shot seems to help.

My vet told me the dosage for mine based on the kind of pills I was buying. I just get the human pills at CVS. Here's a chart I found laying out dosages.

And here's more info than I really care to know about fish oils, but there's good dose info in here.

It really does make a difference. I started just giving her a pill with food for months because I'd read online that it helped. Nothing changed. When I asked my vet about it, he told me to up the dose and it made a huge difference.

I hope. She's kinda looking, and acting, like that 60 year-old circus mouse in the Green Mile.

Yeah... this too.

And if you have a Petco near by you can find the Vet's Best stuff.

Thanks guys. She's got warts all over and just had rectal surgery for some busted blood vessels. Also has the fatty tumors. She's hanging in there though.

Could be the food she's eating.

If you are giving her chicken-based food, that seems to be a common problem.
You might want to switch her to a fish-based food... like Salmon. Anything but chicken.
