43 people are outside of the 21 day window in Texas, and a few more will be out of it by tomorrow. Since most people who are infected display symptoms 8-10 after exposure, The big watch will be from today (11 days after Vinson left for Ohio through Wednesday (10 days after return flight) although we should probably be watching closely through the end of the week.

Probably a very important week for the two nurses, who I wish all the best for.

Do you think we will see any more infections? The 21 day period from the last flight would end after Nov 3rd.

I have heard rumors only. He was admitted back on the 12th as a precaution. I doubt he would have been symptomatic so quickly. And why would he still be at Texas Presby if he actually had it?

The fact that Duncan's primary contacts are in the clear is great news. Now, let's hope Vinson's poor decision didn't infect anybody. We will have several more days to find out about that.

Still need the travel ban, though. The screening process at airports is kind of a joke. They're just taking people's temps.

Some good news so far, and like the OP said, this is a big week.

I wouldn't say that just yet. When both nurses have been released from the hospital and none of the workers that cared for them don't get sick then I will call it over.

The nurse in Spain has recovered. Wondering why there is no thread here.

As long as there's an outbreak in West Africa, you can't say it's over. Hopefully, the situation caused by Thomas Duncan will be over in about 2 weeks.

Not from this index.
If we do not institute quarantines and assign their potential referral to equipped facilities in advance, we will absolutely have more infections.

IAW every single solitary previous proclamation by the CDC, Vinson was not contagious. No way. No how. The fact the CDC would intimate otherwise is yet another example of spastic irresponsibility emanating from Frieden's desk. He should be fired.

Pham should be okay. Vinson still has a fight on her hands.

Vinson's family sought legal counsel ( LINK) following the latest round of CDC bullshite. Hopefully they will sue. Hopefully they will win.

That'll do it.

Some guy with a cold = dangerous

Some guy coming from Liberia via Belgium = totally cool

Why? Gov involvement always makes things worse.

quote:

OK, that sounds like it makes sense. Why are health experts saying the ban's a bad idea?
The CDC's Frieden gets why that's the knee-jerk reaction to such a deadly disease.
But a ban might actually make things worse, he said, because it could encourage people to lie about their travel to West Africa.
And without that crucial information, Frieden said people infected with Ebola could slip into the United States without the CDC being able to track and monitor them for symptoms.

It's kind of like coaching VB. The coach doesn't spend 55 minutes out of an hour praising the team for what they did right on St. night. He spends it trying to correct the wrongs the team committed.

US troops returning from Liberia --- (you know, the ones who will "have no contact with Ebola") --- those troops will be quarantined 21 days on return to the US.

Meanwhile, Liberians coming here are free to go as they please.

There is no reason for them to lie now, not saying they wouldn't. Everybody is freaking out over this. 1 infected traveler out of thousands.
quote:

Between 70 and 100 passengers a day arrive at JFK from the Ebola epicenter countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, King noted, and they have access to public restrooms and mingle with other travelers before their first screening.

So lets say 85/day in just JFK. Lets just go from July 1st
85passengers/day*82days=6970 passengers from ebola countries coming into JFK alone.
1/6970=0.000134*100%=0.0143% have been infected.
Then you can add in all the other airports and it is much less.

some kids in my children's school were on Vinson's flight. it's been hysteria with schools closing down and hazmat crews cleaning the place. will be glad when the hysteria is over.

There are tests you can take for Ebola that will detect it before you have symptoms so if they have made it this far without getting it they will be fine.
