my point: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SCHEME LSU RUNS. our execution has been lacking but seems to be getting better.
I am beginning to be persuaded as to the truth of this statement.

We have recruited Far more pro style qbs than dual threat. They just seem to not work out.
pro style
Rettig, jenning, Zach lee, j lee, rivers
dual threat
JJ, harris, rp

Agree, our scheme is fine, we just need improved QB play.
I'd say with LSU's scheme if you can just get improvement on 3rd downs passing it looks like a different offense. All of a sudden things will start clicking and those 1/2 the field drives will turn into trips to the redzone.

We tried to pass 3 times on 1st and 10. Results 0-2 and 1 sack. We also went 0-1 on a 1st and 15.

I started a thread on the scoreboard about Jennings refusing to throw the ball. He just stands back there

It's the exact same scheme LSU ran last year when Mett, OBJ and Juice were breaking school records. Freaking rantards have a very short, myopic memory.

Wrong. Scheme means how you plan to use your offensive philosophy. We do not run the same balance of pass plays because he doesn't trust Jennings, with good reason.

Same offense, but TOTALLY different schemes.

The scheme we are running right now can work against average to below average teams with our talent. And there is nothing wrong with that.

But it has to be tweaked against good teams or we'll end up with Auburn or State again (though I do believe our D is really improving along with our O-line).

There is something wrong with the scheme LSU runs. The I formation, run run pass punt, scheme is not a good one but that doesn't mean we need to go to the spread. We should go to a more pro style offense, with the QB in the shotgun, 2-3 WR sets, 1 or 2 RB's in the backfield, and 1 TE. One that balances the pass with the run. One that doesn't believe that you have to get the run game going in order to set up the pass. One that is as likely to throw on 1st down as it is to run. ONe where down and distance aren't the sole criteria for whether or not we run or pass. One that tries to distribute the ball. ONe like the pros run and pretty much every other college team. But the air raid spread like Texas A&M and some other teams run would not be a good move for LSU. I don't recall any fans on this board calling for that though. We need to put the QB's in a better position to get some semblance of a passing game going. Going to be tough to beat teams like Ole Miss and especially Alabama doing what we are currently doing on offense.

The word "scheme" has to be one of the least understood on this board...

would get better results from the shotgun, especially without a top level QB. Easier for the QB to see the passing routes opening up before him. Also easier for the RB's to get going. More room to run. Plus gets them involved in the pass game.

We will need to pass for more than 121 yards to beat the good teams pops.

is anyone running the wishbone these days. We should run it. Would be right up Miles and Cams alley. Shitcan any attempt at a balanced attack. Would probably good for 7 wins year in year out. Would never beat any good teams with it, but what the hell. At least we would know that we imposed our will on those defenses and that's all that really matters.

this sounds so deceptively correct but, teams that do this are not winning more games than miles is.

I don't think there is a team in America that doesn't operate on this principle. they ALL consider down and distance in the play calling.

lsu does this already

it's been tried. Jennings, for whatever reason, just isn't ready for that.

My only complaint is it is my opinion that we should be using more shotgun and pistol formations. You can do the same things scheme wise from these formations. It spreads the field and reduces the times that teams can just stack the line of scrimmage. Creates space for our players. It also would enhance the ability to throw little dump passes to the backs and bubble screens to the receivers. Easy passes for our QBs to complete.

in this mornings' Houston Chronicle, Sumlin quotes.."we need to examine what we're doing schematically".
for the record, Freeze said something very similar in an interview recently. However, it seems that he has already made that shift. For Ole Miss a partial (which is what they did) or a complete change in how they call/manage the game is made much easier by a good defense. Something Sumlin lacks.

MYTH:
We couldnt run the ball against Auburn

FACT:
In the first half, LSU on 1st down ran 7 times and gained 54 yards, for a 7.7 ypc. Then CC put the ball in Brandon Harris' hands and he saw headlights.
