re: Why do LSU fans leave football games so early?

If you can't make it through a football game because you tailgated for 8 hours, don't tailgate for 8 hours next time. People are basing their gamedays off of the tailgate or after party rather than the game.

I'm starting to think based on the answers in this thread that the length of the games added to the traffic snarl leaving after a game might be the main culprits.
I think this is the main reason...fwiw, I walked away from my seat last night with about 3 minutes left in the game and pulled into my driveway a little after 3 AM...doesn't take long to get enough of that...

If tailgating has taken first priority over the game itself then we are in big trouble, IMO.

Any or all of the above.

Traffic.
I left early in the fourth quarter and still didn't get back to New Orleans until after 1 a.m.
As much as I was enjoying the game, I have a family to spend time with on Sunday mornimg agter being gone all day Saturday.

This site posts pages and pages of complaints about how the coaches and players are not giving 100%.
The only thing that outnumbers those complaints are the reasons given why (so-called) LSU FANS are justified in giving only 50% (stay until half)
Why should they expect players to give it all until the end of the game when they cannot do the same?

1. Traffic has gotten exponentially worse over the years....

There is a college football bubble in this country. It will eventually burst, and it will hit schools in the wallet. Non-revenue-producing sports will suffer the most.
People will only pay that much money for so little return for so long. Eventually they stop paying. All the hi def video boards in the world aren't gonna stop it.

Traffic has gotten worse over the years because of seats being added to TS.

I think this is somewhat true, and I think that a part of this is that they've diluted the value of the in-game experience by overtelevising. By the time many people walk into Tiger Stadium at 6 pm on Saturday they've watched all or part of a MAC game on Thursday night, a AAC game on Friday night, a Big Ten game at noon on Saturday, and the CBS game of the week at 3 pm. They're football satiated. Within the past ten years there's just been an exponential growth in the sheer number of games you can watch, if you want. That makes every individual game less compelling, especially when it's 34-3 in the third and LSU is already starting to strangle the clock.
I think another factor is that a large group of people are really just casual football fans. This hit home on the drive back last night when my dad and I were discussing our DB rotation and what second stringers saw playing time late. My mom just kind of quietly says "whenever I listen to you two talk about LSU I am surprised by how knowledgeable you are." And I take it for granted that, as an LSU fan, I know who the backup left guard is and where he went to high school. I spend a lot of time reading about and thinking about LSU football. But I think a good number of people in the stadium are like my mom. They know who Anthony Jennings is, Fournette. But they don't have the faintest clue who John David Moore is, and they're not watching in garbage time to see whether Moore looks like someone who could contribute after Neighbors and Dickson leave. And if that's not the kind of thing that matters to you, why would you stay to watch a blowout?

LSU is not the only place where these issues exist. But there are schools who do not claim to have fans as loyal as LSU where fans stay to the end despite having to deal with the same.

Those 40-50 percent of students are drunk and don't want o be standing in Tiger Stadium

Poor traffic flow leaving the stadium. It's amazing how much quicker it is when you leave a little early and the game has basically been decided. A big difference to those of us who don't live in Baton Rouge.
I've left each game at the end and I've gotten out quickly each time.

Let me guess, you're parking in a reserved spot close to the stadium and opposite the direction you need to go.

I noticed it too but I only go to games every few years. I left midway through the 4th but the style of offensive play is really boring I called the plays half the time from where i was sitting. I do not like booing so the only way to get the attention of people is too have a half empty stadium. I was shocked but I understood why very vanilla boring offense

The last game I attended on campus, realized tailgating had replaced the game as the most important game day activity. Half the people are drunk, stuffed and miserable by 8 pm.
