The trend of football announcers saying "no flags" after a TD is scored...

... I really liked this trend and it was fairly commonplace in the mid 2000's ( example).

There's nothing worse in football than watching a big play for a TD and not have the announcers note that there's a flag down, then have been all excited (or crushed) for nothing if they'd have bothered to just point it out.

To that end, I really loved the trend of the quick "no flags" addendum to any TD call by announcers. But it seems like nobody does that anymore.

Has anybody else noticed this?
Am I off base in this?
Does anybody else agree with me?

That thing is so unreliable. fricking Verne Lundquist is more on the ball than the dude who is responsible for making that "FLAG" box appear

I hate it. I'd rather hear the crowd on a big play or TD

I feel like I always hear "no flags," and it just reminds me how many damn flags there are in these games.

it is a shame that we have to look for them on every touchdown... also teams saying "well we beat them 35-20 with 3 TDs called back"

"No flags" sort of highlights a sad fact about the game if you ask me. Since the forward pass was created in 1906, football's list of rules has only gotten larger and virtually impossible to play with any level of abandon, lest be penalized for something inconsequential. We have gotten to the point where anytime a great play is made—especially on special teams—you're shocked if there isn't a penalty you didn't know was enacted this season because the Seahawks were good.

That is actually not true at all. I have worked a similar role in the booth. Verne has a lot to follow, but the "flag" has a few designated roles that he keeps a close eye on. Verne is less reliable because he is trying to follow a game while reading names and numbers from a spotter and statistics provider.
