It seems to me when you meet an active libertarian and look at many of their candidates that legalizing dope is a central issue in their campaigns.

After deciding to vote for McMorris who I know very little about I decided to investigate some of their other candidates.

Charles Saucier is a candidate for the 5th congressional seat and here is Facebook page. LINK There you will see all kinds of post and pics concerning the legalization of weed.

Jeffrey Stanford is running for the first district seat. The second issue he touts on his website is drug legalization. LINK

Samuel Davenport is running for the second district. The very first issue he addresses is prohibition. LINK

On and on.

While I agree prohibition is stupid it is not a top of the pile issue for me.

Big government is hurting me or has the potential to hurt me a lot more through business regulation, health care mandates, wars, taxes, welfare policies and day to day crony capitalism.

The libertarians have a message that appeals to a lot more people than those presently willing to step up and declare themselves libertarians. Putting forth dope centric candidates is one of the reasons.

Hopefully Paul and those like him will drive the republicans toward libertarianism and country will be better off.

Agree. They're right about legalization, but it's dangled out there as an incentive to vote. It's low rent.

The concerns about legalized drugs are valid, as many people either have had, and/or know those who have had, problems with drug use.

But then again, others have had, and/or know those who have had, problems with alcohol or tobacco use. My father died of emphysema from years of smoking (and my mother's health was greatly impacted by her use, though she quit), his father (and also one uncle on my mother's side) died as a result of alcoholism.

Yet I don't want to go back to Prohibition. We tried that and it failed.
