re: Argument that LSU is pricing out the true/die hard fans out of Tiger Stadium

The "single game" tickets avail. to non-season ticket holders are first picked over by season ticket holders {never any avail. for bama/other big home games}....these "left-overs" come from all the returned visitors seats.

For me it's not so much the increased prices, but the attitude. LSU could care less if the average fans keep their tix. They'd happily sell them to the next corporation without any consideration as to why those fans are giving them up. More corporate involvement may mean more money, but the culture of game day outside and inside the stadium will change, IMO.

but the attitude
What should LSU do? How should they behave?

What did LSU do for you to reach that conclusion?

What culture?
- license to get drunk?
- bitching about having to pay for parking?
- complaining that you cannot slide down Indian Mounds
- privilege to throw garbage around campus and expect it to be clean by Sunday AM prayers
What is your definition of football culture?
There is a radio host (BR local) named Condon. Usually foams at mouth about 'culture' issues. He waxes poetic about stock that Louisiana folk belong to. But is a moocher when he needs to pay
- wants the privilege to throw first pitch (may have been accorded in softball already)
- free hotdogs for spring football
- free cocoa when its cold in the stadium
If he didn't get that, the loud mouth with a show talks about LSU as if they owed him. Because - culture!

It's not the price of tickets that's the problem for me, as I do realize that inflation has impacted every aspect of our daily lives. And it's physically easy to see where the monies have gone, i.e. in better facilities. What bothers me is what I am getting for my money now. That value has shrunk significantly. I have no problem with LSU charging me a competitive price, i.e. more expensive, for the SEC games. But for me to have to pay the same price for a ULLLL or McNeese St. ticket as I do for a bama ticket is ridiculous. By charging less for the cupcake games, you'd get more fans who actually want to see the game as opposed to those who are just stuck paying for it through their season ticket package.Too, when it comes to value, the experience of Tiger Stadium is no where near what it used to be. I can take the weather & have for decades. I can take day games & have for decades. Traffic has always been a problem, even with a smaller TS, as the roads in & around campus were no where near as developed, especially before I-10 days, as they are now. But the experience of sitting in TS is, at best, an average one nowadays. It used to be the place to be on Saturdays & fans reacted accordingly. Now, fans are looking at their watches midway through the 2nd quarter & timing their departure.

So, what do we do? Buy our tickets from stubhub, etc or keep getting screwed by LSU taf/ticket office.

Student section was free to all students ... part of your tuition when I was in school... (Dark Ages)
not totally free, but included in the sports/activity fee...around $ 25..which is mostly free..68-69-70 I registered and dropped out 71 and 72 so I could go and sit in the student sect.
Have had my season tix since 69

Obviously you don't have season tickets...
Sept. 6 Sam Houston St. $40 $30
Sept. 13 UL-Monroe $40 $25
Sept. 20 Mississippi St. $60 $55
Sept. 27 New Mexico St. $40 $25
Oct. 18 Kentucky $60 $45
Oct. 25 Ole Miss $85 $80
Nov. 8 Alabama $100 $100

Already mentioned but as prices rise and the the average fan chooses to sell his tickets , the university will push more of the available tickets to corporations. This is turn brings a completely different atmosphere to the game. If you want to see the atmosphere this type of pricing structure brings go to a Lakers, Heat or USC game. Fans show up late, leave early and really just do not give a shite. Not saying a guy who gets a corporate ticket does not care but all items that are free are less valuable.

sounds like 80% of TS already

Over the years TS isn't what it used to be. Idk if all the rabid fans have just aged or if the blue collar (likely crazier and louder than white collar) fans can't afford tickets now.

What puzzles me is why the alethic department continues to give millions to the academic side every year but say they need to raise prices for tickets and parking to "Keep up with the Jones". This year, the new non-refundable parking lots raised over 6 million alone. Why do the football ticket holders have to continue to pay for the education side?

Couldn't agree more. What some of these single game outside the stadium ticket buyers don't understand is the TAF fees. Hell the Alumni fees as well. I have 8 tickets this year purchased through the Alumni association. A cool 20K.
If you divide that 20K by the number of decent games in the stadium these days it just doesn't correlate to being worth it. This is why people complain about the gimme games and neutral site games we play. Its fine for people who just buy individual tickets.

and its illegal to sell them for what they are worth

I didn't grow up an LSU fan. I visited LSU based on a recommendation after describing large southern state schools that take football and sports very seriously as the type of college I wanted to attend.
I thought it was gorgeous, stadium was amazing and the girls were pretty. So I came here in 2005. Immediately saw what The people here are made of when Katrina hit. I still live in Louisiana and probably always will. I consider myself a true and die hard LSU fan.
And I don't give a shite if you disagree.

1) you don't have to
2) if the education side dissipates then what do you think happens to the football side?
What harm is there in building up the University, not just football? They will keep raising prices until the point that they have reached equalization. Why shouldn't they?

I can afford it, but I'm not paying it. I can stay at home or drive in BR traffic for free and feel just as frustrated.

1. Don't have to do what?
2. Nothing wrong with building up the university. All I'm asking is why they make the people who attend football games pay for the education side. We already pay for all the other sports.
The students who attend should pay for the education side. BTW, I went to LSU in the early 80's and the Atheletic Dept. did not give a dime to education. I also have children who attend LSU now, so I'm doing my part on that end as well.

Let's be real. The prices wouldn't go down if they stopped giving to education.
And you're suggesting our student tickets should go up so that people who are paying tuition already can cover the academic donation from football income? Nah

If any of you actually went to the game, the issue is easily understood. LSU has a dirth of old, overweight, sick fans.
Two strikes on the same pitch.
