I've seen this on here before. Where did this come from? This is not the case at all.

$18 per ticket and you could park by the geology building or the street by the tennis courts at 3 PM with no problem

You could buy season tix w/no "donation" and park for free well into the late 80s/early 90s.
I do that...today.
My seats that I've had are in row N of the EUD, and as of this season now have no TAF fees attached. I park near the soccer field in the grass lot. I pay nothing for parking.
The only thing I pay for, outside of my costs for gas or whatever I'd like to bring to the game to eat/drink during the day are the face price of the tickets.
I realize there are hefty fees for being in the bowl, but let's not pretend there are no options. There are.

When I was at LSU, all students needed to get in a game was a Student ID. No student with a valid ID could be turned away.

If any of you actually went to the game, the issue is easily understood. LSU has a dirth of old, overweight, sick fans. Most can't handle more than an hour or so in the stadium, the walk, the wait, etc. Those people control a large portion of the tickets.
There have been articles and studies done that new alumni are not buying season tickets. Either because of access or ability, young LSU Alums do not buy tickets. They may get them on the secondary market or handed down, but many colleges have this issue. There have been some innovative programs to get Alumni to buy tickets, but that usually means taking a block form students and offering them at a discount to new graduates.
Another issue is the economy. New graduates can't afford tickets and when old season ticket holders give up tickets, they go to higher donating, corporate buyers. So there are large blocks seats that go empty of are given to people who are only there for the experience. It all counts.
Winning doesn't promote this as much as changing demographics do. It is more expensive to do anything now, so it is extremely difficult to inject new ticket buyers, alum into the process.

OK, going to the game is not as enjoyable as it once was,,
Parking is a nightmare because there are an extra 50,000 people out there who are not going to the game they just came to get drunk tailgating...40,000 of those are 18-21 yr old idiots. Have to park two miles away so the walking sucks.Had a motorhome spot by the stadium years ago but they decided to move most of us out to Touchdown Village which I think is in ...a.. Gonzales. Come back from the game and all the kids that did not go in have pillaged your tailgate for anything not tied down. Can't take young kids because the language in the stadium has gone to shite over the past ten years.
Now on the other hand at home 60' HD TV, neighbors and the friends you want to enjoy the game with, pit loaded up with all the favorites, dips and chips and casseroles. Sectional couches for comfort seating, nice clean bathrooms, air controlled at 70 degrees and remote to catch the other game updates.....no need to say more!!!

My Thoughts:
1. I know for some families buying season tickets was basically their vacation money for the year. I'm sure that the price increases meant that some of these familes stopped buying tickets.
However, you can't say with any certainty that the people who COULD afford their tickets aren't true/die hard fans as well.
2. I think fans are growing tiresome of the neutral site games. I think it would have been great to see the Tigers suit up against Oregon or Wisconsin in Tiger Stadium.
3. I don't live in Baton Rouge....but if I did I imagine I would spend my money on baseball or basketball season tickets. I think there is better value in those tickets. (i don't mean market value)
4. Saw the price of an RV pass the other day..... (nothing negative....just didn't realize it was that much)

Argument that LSU is pricing out the true/die hard fans out of Tiger Stadium
Its not just women's sports that cost $$$, most men's sports cost $$$ and lose $$$ every year.
The way to cut back is this: cut sports. Keep football, basketball, and baseball plus softball, WBB, and gymastics. Keep men's and women's track too. Cut golf and tennis and soccer...
You do realize that with Title IX you are required to offer the same number of women's scholarships as men's correct? You are 80 scholarships in the hole just with football so you can forget about cutting any women's sports.

yep, and this is why I call Title IX the "third rail" of college athletics...

Is the OP mad at the cost of ticket prices, or mad at the people complaining about ticket prices?
Or both?
I can't really figure it out.

I haven't been priced out but I have been timed out. I live in nola and to go to the games it seems we have to leave Saturday around 8-9am so we can park anywhere near campus. Then after the game it takes so long to get on the road that staying over night is almost a better option. So, I have to give up my entire weekend for a game. Now I just go to Saints games. I still get to enjoy football with out giving up my entire weekend.

I'd argue that price is not the issue so much as availability. Regular non-season ticket holders used to be able to call when tickets went on sale.
How does the ticket office handle individual ticket sales for home games? I remember in the preseason, the ticket office had individual tickets for sale for every game but the Bama game.
Shouldn't there be the same number of individual tickets for every game, or are season ticket holders given first dibs on the individual tickets before they go on sale to the public?

Good for A&M, Texas, etc. Have you compared the average income for Texas to Louisiana. This is a subject that needs to be addressed, but so many smart asses that work for LSU post. that nothing constructed every gets discussed. The average fan has a tough time getting season tickets starting from zero priority points. The grips about people leaving early, most that leave early were given the tickets and may not even be football fans, or LSU fans--they got a free night out. As far as away game tickets, donating $20,000 will not get you in a lower section. So, what do we do? Buy our tickets from stubhub, etc or keep getting screwed by LSU taf/ticket office.
