So, I'm reviewing the Wisconsin, MSU, Auburn, and Florida replays to chart the actual statistics on our notorious toss dive play (abysmal, by the way)... and I can't help but notice the ineffectiveness of our screens.

Aside from the obvious... that both Jennings and Harris can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn on those things... well, shocker of shocker, there's no deception involved in them, whatsoever. Who's teaching these things? Backing up with the football in your hands while staring at the running back is never going to fool anybody... Look OFF the play... fake pump it to the right or look downfield, for heavens sake, before turning toward the actual target.

Football is not rocket science.

This is why the open up the offense people are so wrong. We don't have the ability to pull it off.

Oh, and the toss dive is our best play.

Sometimes I wonder if we even practice passing plays in practice.

Nothing makes me scratch my head more than when I see our offense look lost when we try execute passing plays.

In short, it's not just limited to screen passes and, yes, I agree with you.

It pains me watching every other team being able to pull off a simple screen pass knowing we are somehow unable to execute one.

toss dive play

It's like the short side option with JJ. One DC at the time said it's the one play in LSU's arsenal that is just inches away from breaking a long one every time. We never did but they still had to prepare for it

You have to have a quarterback who can throw an accurate 5 yard pass to be able to throw a screen.

LOLOLOLOL...and who's fault is this? Bare with me here...lolololol. So let me get this straight, we don't have good enough players to open up the offense? Who are we, Navy?

I'm sure our quarterbacks can throw a 5 yard pass.

We have the ability. We recruit the ability every year. It's the lack of coaching and development that seem to be the constant.

Les is the man, but you need a good or great QB to win it all.

nothing ever comes routine or "easy" with the passing game for LSU.

they should be practicing the same bread and butter plays over and over and over again... pick a few formations and run 3 plays from each of them. I never thought cam's QB's would struggle so much. it doesn't make any sense.

there's also ZERO passes called over the middle and the TE's aren't even a part of the game plan anymore.

Miles is so scared of throwing interceptions that it's affected the offense and the QB's greatly. It's made them super stiff and paranoid.

Not being able to execute a screen pass falls directly on the head coach. Football 101. Why do you seem surprised we cannot execute this?

when crowton was at LSU, they used to run a RB middle screen and it was successful.

jimbo used to screen pass the shite out of teams in 2003

There exists a middle ground between 2008 and now, but Les can't seem to figure that out. In 08 it seemed like Crowton expected Lee to operate the offense exactly like Flynn had done the year before, and there were no adjustments made even after the interceptions kept coming game after game. Crowton just called his plays and Lee was supposed to execute them, regardless of how inept they were.

Now, 6 years later, it's obvious Les never wants to experience that again, but basically limiting the passing game to nothing but go routes down the sideline is just as bad if not worse than slinging it around. It's just as hard for the QB's to make a play when they only are allowed 20% of the field to work with.

I feel like our offense belongs in the 1950's.

It's more than the playcalling. I can't put my finger on it, but you see it.

Calling a timeout and then breaking the huddle with 12 men? Something is not right. It's like our coaching staff and the players are playing telephone and the message is getting all sorts of messed up.

The coaching staff trying to change the play from the sideline with less than 10 seconds on the play clock? Why? The kids are struggling to get the first play communicated. Why change it when you know they won't get it in time?

Stuff like that just makes me wonder.

It's crazy. I literally hold my breath when we drop back to pass. Wtf is that about? Unless we are recruiting quarterbacks who have NEVER thrown a pass in their entire lives until they get to LSU, I'm assuming the fault lies in the coaching staff.

ETA: Again, I think Les is the man, but he's not above critcisim. You have to be honest about your shortcomings and failures as a coach. If you don't acknowledge your weaknesses, you can't minimize them.
