CARROLLTON MARKET
8132 Hampson St., New Orleans, 504.252.9928

Chef Jason Goodenough has chops and taste. He is proving himself without preening in an attractive restaurant built to continue shining as it ages.

Standout dishes: Pork tail tots, oysters Goodenough, crisped pork belly, Louisiana shellfish risotto, chocolate peanut butter pie.

MARCELLO'S RESTAURANT AND WINE BAR
715 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, 504.581.6333

The restaurant's swagger is fueled by its lusty strain of Italian cooking – grilled long stem artichokes, Marsala pork cheek, three kinds of parmigiana – and a colorful mix of characters roaming the floor.

Standout dishes: Steamed mussels, grilled artichokes, Marsala pork cheek, clam spaghetti.

MOPHO
514 City Park Ave., New Orleans, 504.482.6845

This is the restaurant where chef Michael Gulotta gives himself license to indulge his imagination, turning roasted lamb neck into a green curry with beets and smoked tofu or roasting whole hogs for weekend barbecues that unite the Mekong and Mississippi deltas.

Standout dishes: Pork shoulder spring rolls, crispy chicken wings, pepper jelly braised clams, pho with oxtail and mustard greens, condensed milk cake.

NOODLE & PIE
741 State St., New Orleans, 504.252.9431

The restaurant’s concept makes room for Korean fried chicken and Thai papaya salad, but you won't want to leave without slurping down one of the titular Japanese noodle soups, all made from fragrant, housemade stocks and hand-rolled noodles. The seasonally changing pies – ginger peach with oatmeal crumble, fig jam-custard – taste like they come a whole other kitchen.

Standout dishes: Kimchi katsudon, deep fried Brussels sprouts, house ramen, key lime pie (when available).

quote:

SQUARE ROOT
1800 Magazine St., New Orleans, 504.309.7800

The new place is without question unlike anything New Orleans has ever seen: an open kitchen fronted by 16 stools, the only seats in the house to witness chef Phillip Lopez's multi-course foray into performance art.

Standout dishes: Southern picnic, lobster chilaquiles, charred Wagyu short rib, toasted almond nitro macaroon.

I can't wait to try Marcello's.

Noodle & Pie is criminally underrated on here.

I'm assuming you mean to write "best NEW restaurants". And link it.

But Noodle and Pie started out awesome but has gone way down hill imo.

The first few times I went to Noodle and Pie I loved it.

Last time I went there menu was so paired down I was worried they were going out of business or something. It was crazy.

Really need to change the title to "New" restaurants.

I like Carrollton Market and think it's got some room to grow.

Really need to try Marcello's, this might be a good weekend to try if I'm going to be down there for the BBQ Fest.

Still haven't tried Noodle & Pie, like BO said they need a lunch service. I went once not knowing they weren't open which was a pisser.

Really, how long ago? My last visit was 6-8 months ago IIRC.

About a month ago. I hadn't been in a bout 4 months or so.

I USUALLY think the larger the menu the worse the place. They didn't have a big menu before, but they had some nice interesting options.

When I went they had the 3 ramen bowls, no ramen special (which they've always had when I've gone before), and like 5-6 other things. I was like...what?? The claypot, my favorite thing, wasn't on the menu.

And they didn't have any of the pies in the menu. They had them written on a chalk board in a corner I couldn't see from my table.

Maybe they had a ordering issue, I don't know. But it was a Saturday night. And it was not crowded.

That chalkboard thing is annoying--it's hard to see, hard to read, and a simple paper insert would probably sell more food.

Did not know that. That's awesome. Never understood with that concept why they weren't open for lunch from the start. Just seems like a natural fit.

Sucks to hear this. I have not been in there since Jan-Feb or so because they did not have lunch service, but I rather enjoyed it then.

Like I said, maybe it was just an ordering issue and they had to pair down that weekend.

I have the same problem. Keep it simple, dummy.

I tried to order a coffee at Mojo a few days ago, and their chalk board reminded my or a Chutes and Ladders game.

Clancy's menu is not a chalkboard, but I hate it. With the amount of old people that go there, you would think they would cut the poorly handwritten shite and just type it out. I guess most just order the same thing every time:

I totally agree. I've never even been to Clancy's, but every time I try to look at their menu online, I give up because I don't have the patience to try and figure that shite out.
