England
Ghana
Algeria
Slovenia

Germany
Belgium
Ghana
Portugal

One of these groups of teams seems tougher than the other...

The writer basically takes a shite on Ghana and Portugal, calls the group a "paper tiger"

Losing Jozy so early doesn't help those numbers either

The US did not play all that well in most of the games. Portugal was the best game we played.

That being said, the schedule was insane and the results were strong even if the process and the on the field product was not.

I tend to agree, it's a results business tournament. That said, I don't think our group was as hard as originally thought.

Both teams were still dangerous, and not losing your shite is a major part of performing well at big tournaments. It was still a very difficult group and a great result.

If only it could be 2010 again with us barely going through the group of ease with your hero saving the day so y'all could move on after the tournament instead of constantly complaining about the coach for 5 months and counting.

If only it was early 2014 again and we had a hero on the team to save the day going through the group of death, instead of relying on an inconsistent striker to get any sort of result. With a much more complete team, besides the super star Brad Davis as our secret weapon against the Germans.

I guess he missed Ghana drawing Germany and Portugal beating Ghana. And Germany beating everyone other than Ghana.

I don't think the U.S. played particularly well, but it's disingenuous to claim the group wasn't difficult and use that as another reason to bash Klinsmann.

It is Jurgy's fault that he didn't have a like-for-like replacement for someone so vital to his strategy.

Wow. So basically the anti Jurgen mindset is now the group wasn't actually that tough bc we got through it? Let's just ignore the fact that it had the eventual champion, the only team to outplay or evenly play said champion in Ghana, and the team with the best player in the world.

But hey England had Emile Heskey and Algeria and Slovenia both exist so the groups were basically equal

No one is saying the group was easy except the author of the article. It was arguably the toughest group. Ghana were insanely dangerous until they collapsed. Portugal were down, but still had CR7. Germany were the best team in the world.

Today on the soccer board we criticize Jurgen for not pumping up MLS and for choosing an all-time great MLS goal poacher over a guy from a second-tier European league who has never scored for the U.S. and would only play in the unlikely event that Jozy got hurt.
It's totally JK's fault, too, that Wondo of all people missed a sitter that would have put us through to the quarter finals.

Wondo has previous for missing sitters in a US kit. See Panama.

You are out of your fricking mind if you did not think we should have a backup for every position.
