Have been to a few of the ones in Tampa. They suck, all of them.

The one in Hyde Park is pretty bad but I liked the one up in Carrollwood.

So what sucks so bad about them? Is it just that bad of an atmosphere? I would think it is not the selection.

I'm curious too. My guess would be the clientele? Maybe it attracts a more douchy crowd than most Mavens are comfortable with?

I would think having 500 beers from all over the world would make up for a corporate atmosphere.

Here is what my location has on tap. What three beers would you guys try if you were me? I am a big fan of milk stouts and porters but I am open to anything.

I'm with ya. I nice clean atmosphere seems just fine with me. I'm less impressed with refuse than some of my NOLA brethren.

I think most locals here are concerned with the crowd WOB will attract, especially being out in the burbs.

That's really a pretty weak taplist. Good to see some locally produced brews but you can purchase the vast majority of those at your local bottle shop. The Beer Camp brews alone would be enough to turn me away.

I don't know much about beers. What on that list or the bottle list would you reccomend?

Try some variety then and figure out what you like. I'd recommend an IPA, a Stout and possibly something on the Saison/Fruit side of things.

The Jekyll IPA sounds okay, the Terrapin Moo-Hoo is solid and the Lindeman's Framboise is certainly unique.

The reviews are insanely good. Why not try that out first to have a basis for comparison when you go check out WOB? Some of the differences between those types of places are things you can't really put your finger on.

I'm sure WOB has plenty of fine beers (never been), but we've learned with places like Pelican that aiming for some insane number doesn't mean you necessarily have fantastic stuff.

Also.. atmosphere might not matter to all people, but it's a big deal to some. I mean, you're paying a premium to drink in a place that isn't your living room. I think it's okay to desire a certain crowd/ambiance/etc.

The Cove in BR has some really legit beers, but I don't think I could walk in there and not fall asleep, for example.

I will probably give both a shot this week. The Distillery doesn't list their taps on their website though.

I liked the two in Florida I went to. Its a corporate feel to it but I didn't mind. The bartenders were knowledgeable and the prices were fair. Draft list wasn't out of this world good but the bottle list is pretty extensive.

No food but you could get delivery to the bar from nearby restaurants.

List is pretty whatever. If it were me I'd try out local stuff that caught my eye.

Southbound Hop'lin IPA
Jekyll Brewing Hop Dang Diggity IPA
Moon River The Bomb Stout

also just a random aside, I don't like looking at beer advocate ratings or beer reviews before trying a new beer I haven't heard of. nice to go in with zero expectations.. some reviews can sour your mindset before you take the first sip.

Good advice Rohan. I actually read the reviews of the Creme brulee earlier and they were saying how good it was.

To be fair (and make your same point, I guess), they overrate EVERYTHING. So it would be hard to find something that would ruin the beer for you.

But yeah.. I like to check the comments and stuff after I've already had a beer. (Or while drinking it) That way, I can see what other people pick up, but it's not affecting my entire opinion.

The ratings can be a good guide, but I didn't really start using them until I had tried a lot on my own.. and even now, it's just a rough guide for the best in whatever style I'm in the mood for.

Try anything from Southbound. A friend of mine started the brewery after Westbrook stole his recipe and fired him (long story), but his beers are awesome.
