Are series on movie channels that much better because they lack commercials?

I am a die hard walking dead guy but some of the crucial scences cut to commercial and lose there luster. I mean shows like True Detective, Game of thrones, etc. Create such tension and anticipation and deliver because they have no commercials. *spoiler alert* For instance last episode of walking dead the dude was gonna kill the baby and the big black guy is told to exit building with all the zombies or the baby will be killed. I was like
Then bam ruined by commercial. Do any of you feel these excessive commercials take that wow factor away from these non movie channel shows?

I thought about that too. I guess that is the best way now. Hell even on demand doesn't let you fast forward thru commercials

I watch on AMC.com the next day. Awesome quality and no commercials.

I think it's mainly about production quality and creative control.

No because two of the best shows ever (Breaking Bad & Mad Men) have commercials. Actually in writing for TV commercials create natural act breaks that can really help the writing staff.
It's more because those premium channels are geared more to adults and therefore have more intelligent content versus the networks. Now that FX and AMC are seriously involved in dramas there isn't much of a gap between basic cable and premium cable anymore.

Other than FX, AMC, and movie channels do have the best series.

At work just thought about this topic and how it affected the show last night. I had to get my point out couldn't remember names as I was doing it

I hear you, but no, the commercials don't effect me. On rewatches of breaking bad or a quality show that had commercials in its inital premiere, don't bug me. When I rewatch BB or Mad Men I watch the DVD and forget commercials existed once. Gives you a chance to get a piss or food without pausing. Doesn't bug me that much.

Just seems like True detective the acting was better because you became engulfed in the character for a uniterrupped amount of time without commercials. Feels like the commercials ruin that in shows like WD and breaking bad. Even though l like rick and Walt's characters in those shows.

They don't have to worry about corporate sponsors or catering to mass appeal. They can make the shows they want.

Fx and amc are the only exceptions. Its called censorship... movie channels dont have to worry about it. Fx and amc have found a way around it. Thus we have gotten some of the best tv shows ever made from amc and fx (walkind dead, breaking bad, soa)

My thunder down under definitely started a slow ascension northwards when I saw nudity icon at the beginning of true detective and game of thrones. Dem tittays

Unless I'm posting in-thread (which is like... 4 shows) - I watch TV on secondary sources strictly to avoid commercials.
Some channels don't disable FFWD for "on demand" programming... I'll watch those on my TV.

I think it has more to do with the fact that they don't have filler or bottle episodes.

Yeah I tried to go cheapo on the DVR on my xfinity cable because I only watch a few shows but the ability to almost fast forward thru commercials almost simitanously as the show is coming on might be going back with the DVR. On demand and not being able to fast fwd

They are going after a smaller audience so they don't have to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
